Toni Trent Parker, member of Black Americans in Publishing, will produce her fourth annual African American Children's Book Fair on Saturday, April 20th from 10am to 5pm at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 110th St. and Amsterdam Ave. New York City. This one day event will feature authors and illustrators signing their books, storytellers and readings all day long. The book festival is being sponsored by Scholastic, HarperCollins Children's Publishing, Jump in the Sun/Hyperion Books and Just Us Books. Partial proceeds of book sales will be donated to the YMCA/Americorps "School Success Program", a program in 13 school sites in Harlem and the Bronx.
Books come to life in this day-long series of readings and performances by
storytellers Lot Therrio, Rhoda Muchoki, drummer Lamine Thiam, Tonya Bolden,
Wade and Cheryl Hudson, Pat Cummings and Earl Anderson. There will also be a
tribute to Langston Hughes
and Donald Byrd, the choreographer of the Harlem Nutcracker, will show a video
of the ballet and sign his book of the same name.
