zeke1234
This is a quick comment on whether Blacks gained a personal benefit from slavery, as stated by the Florida board of Education and others in their Black curriculum committee. Part of the academic standards states, The whole Florida academic standards can be down loaded at, https://www.fldoe.org/core/fileparse.php/20653/urlt/6-4.pdf DeSantis says slavery presented 'personal benefits' for slaves. VP Harris said 'no'. Five of the better articles on the subject are, 1. ‘Florida Board of Education passes new standards, requirements for African American History’, in the Florida News, by Amber Jo Cooper , Jul. 19, 2023, 2. ‘Florida's new Black history curriculum says "slaves developed skills" that could be used for "personal benefit" ‘, by Kerry Breen, July 21, 2023, CBS News 3. ‘DeSantis says Black people benefited from slavery by learning skills like 'being a blacksmith' ’, by Kenneth Niemeyer , Jul 23, 2023 4. ‘VP Harris says Florida's new Black history curriculum replaces 'history with lies' ’ Updated July 21, 2023, by Juliana Kim 5. ‘Florida Paper Tears Apart Defense of Black History Standard On ‘Personal Benefit’ Of Slavery ‘Skills’ ’, by Tommy Christopher, Jul 22nd, 2023 This last article indicates Frances Pressley Rice, was one of the major writers of the curriculum. A leader of the Republican party. I couldn’t ascertain if her husband was White or Black. And William Barclay Allen who is a known conservative was on the Black history curriculum committee. And as far as I can determine his wife Carol M. Allen is White. Allen grew up in Florida, but has lived in other states most of his life. Should interracial couples be allowed to write Black history curriculum for Black high school students (who are seeking ancestral identity)? Should Black children at grade school and intermediate school levels, be exposed to such curriculum? When I was in the eight grade in 1967, I would have been too young for such a topic? It would have done more harm, than good. I attach a excerpt from Asa Gordon's, ‘The Georgia Negro’, which says there was two types of slave masters, one paternalistic, ant the other autocratic. Depending on the type of slavemaster, and overseer, the better or worst ‘benefit obtained’. There were about 61, 745 Blacks enslaved in Florida in 1860, and about 932 free. from the book, ‘Negros Civil War’, by James McPherson, appendix A. Before 1819, Florida ‘seemingly’ was owned by Spain, and Blacks in Florida were in theory, free. from the 'The Negro in Florida before the Civil War', by Russell Gavin, by the Florida Historical Society So free Blacks in Florida before the Civil War had 'personal benefits', either from before slavery, or during slavery and then manumission. Richard Oswald and Ben Franklin were instrumental in establishing plantations in Florida in the 1700s. from the book, 'The Slave Trade', by Hugh Thomas, page 282 These plantations set the stage for Florida slavery of Blacks after 1821. We know that there were slave plantations outside of St. Augustine, Florida in the 1850s, because ex-slave Christine Mitchell said so. Page 229 Florida Work Writers Project from 1935 Ex-slave Douglas Parish in Monticello, Florida, Jim Parish plantation, stated his ex-slave father was a bricklayer and carpenter. Page 263 https: //www.loc .gov/item/ mesn030/ Ex-slaves Patience Campbell and her father learned weaving and shoemaking. So some Blacks and mulattoes realized 'personal benefits' as slaves. But the intent of most slave masters was not to free those slaves. And, some slave masters were mean, using cat-o-nine-tail whips, for maximum effect. From the mouths of the ex-slaves themselves, rape of Black women by White males, was the course of the day. Blacks did not benefit from those rapes, the White slavemasters did. Another thing, Florida slaves and slaves elsewhere did not benefit from was manumission, ie, slave masters freeing their slaves, because manumission was not being used widely during pre-Civil War times. from the book, ‘Time on the Cross’, by Fogel and Engerman, 1974 No manumission 'personal benefits' for you Black slaves. Fogel and Engerman also saw the slaves’ overall ‘collective benefit’ in 1850 as $84,000,000 loss. On page 239 of their book, Fogel and Engerman state the 'pecuniary income' of slaves of large plantations was greater than had they been small farmers. 'Pecuniary income', more grits and beans for faster cotton pickers? Illusory benefit? In contrast, Herbert Gutman’s, ‘The World Two Cliometricians Made’, is presented as having the opposite point of view, very little Blacks ‘personal benefit’ from slavery. Some White historians, and Black conservatives, push the same type of history as some on the Florida Education Committee. They will unobjectively rewrite Black history, if you let them. They look at the exceptions, the mulattoes created by the rapes of their forefathers, and not the general rule of brutal slavery of the masses of Blacks. Tim Scott weighed in on the matter, July 27, 2023. from the article, 'Scott reproaches DeSantis over Florida Black history standards on slavery', by Rebecca Falconer https://www.axios.com/2023/07/28/tim-scott-desantis-florida-black-history-standards-slavery Scott also stated, from the article, 'Tim Scott slams Florida's Black history curriculum: "There is no silver lining" in slavery', July 28, 2023 CBS News Scott is a good Black historian with respect to this issue. Regarding Emmitt Till’s new monuments, see the article ‘National monument honoring Emmett Till to consist of 3 sites in Illinois and Mississippi’, By Elise Preston, Analisa Novak, July 25, 2023, CBS News . This is Joe Biden grandstanding. "NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by section 320301 of title 54, United States Code, hereby proclaim, set apart, and reserve as the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument (monument), the objects identified above and all lands and interests in lands owned or controlled by the Government of the United States within the boundaries described on the accompanying maps entitled “Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument Boundary,” which are attached to and form a part of this proclamation, for the purpose of protecting those objects. The reserved Federal lands and interests in lands within the monument’s boundaries encompass approximately 5.7 acres, which is the smallest area compatible with the proper care and management of the objects to be protected.", in the White Press release, 'A Proclamation on Establishment of the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument , https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2023/07/25/a-proclamation-on-establishment-of-the-emmett-till-and-mamie-till-mobley-national-monument/ This is more Whites (Biden unilaterally) telling Blacks who our Civil Rights heroes should be. No Mark Clarke or Fred Hampton, who plead for Black togetherness, only to assassinated by the Chicago police. Compare Till to those who integrated that Arkansas high school, surrounded by guardsmen, because of death threats. No comparison, because those students were intentionally part of the integration movement. Not Till. To 'immortalize' Till's death as a significant part of the fight for justice and racial equality, to allow future Black youths to whistle at white women, with three federal monuments, one in which used to be a northern Black neighborhood, I don't think would be well received, This is a Biden valuation of Black history significance . If Emmett had whistled at a Black woman in the 1950s, he would still be living. Don’t make Emmett’s mistake, and ‘Stay Black’. That cocaine found in the West wing of the White House belonged to Hunter, Kamala, or the press secretary. Another CIA cover-up? The judge (Maryellen Noreika) in Delaware who rejected Hunter’s felony gun possession plea agreement in July 26, 2023, instructed him to stay off of drugs, and be tested regularly for drug use. That judge probably had a good idea, who the cocaine in the west wing of the White House, belonged to. Even if the CIA ‘didn’t’. See the article, ‘Hunter Biden enters not guilty plea after deal falls apart’, by Catherine Herridge and others. “A source with knowledge of the agreement said the diversion plan was expected to mean that for two years, Hunter Biden would have had to remain drug-free without committing additional crimes. If he fulfilled that successfully, the gun count would have been dismissed without a guilty plea.” On the other hand, the article, ‘Was Hunter Framed? Second Suspect Emerges in WH Cocaine Scandal ‘ ---- The White House keeps changing its story. How high up does the conspiracy go? by Andrew Stiles, July 7, 2023 "A second viable suspect has emerged as the Biden administration continues to revise its story regarding the location of the illegal drugs. Crucial context: The White House initially claimed the cocaine was found in a highly trafficked area of the White House where "visitors taking tours of the West Wing are instructed to leave their cellphones." That was a lie. The drugs were actually found in a highly secure area of the White House "near the Situation Room," a place where "average people just can't get in" that also happens to be "where the vice president's vehicle is parked." Who dunnit: The cocaine's proximity to Vice President Kamala Harris's vehicle raises some troubling questions in light of her history prosecuting drug cases as San Francisco district attorney." https://freebeacon.com/biden-administration/hunter-biden-cocaine-white-house/
