Biography of Denene Millner

Denene Millner is a six-time New York Times bestselling author, Emmy Award-nominated TV show host and award-winning journalist who has written more than 30 books, among them Taraji P. Henson’s Around the Way Girl and the picture book Early Sunday Morning. Millner is also the founder and editor of MyBrownBaby.com, an award-winning, critically-acclaimed blog that examines parenting and motherhood through the lens of a multi-cultural experience. She is a contributing editor for Essence, and writes articles for a plethora of magazines and websites, including Health, Entertainment Weekly, Heart & Soul, Money, Ebony, Dove.com, Unilever’s “Don’t Fret the Sweat” tween advice site, iVillage Health, and iVillage’s Momtourage, among others.

Photo Younger Denene Millner also co-authored with comedian Steve Harvey the advice book Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man, which debuted No. 1 on the New York Times Best Seller’s list and named by Nielsen the top selling nonfiction book of 2009. She also penned the best-selling advice book series, What Brothers Think, What Sistahs Know, and the novels, Love Don’t Live Here Anymore, In Love & War, and, A Love Story, each co-authored with her then husband, Nick Chiles; the novel, The Vow, named one of Borders Best of 2005 and optioned by Lifetime Television; the novelization of the Academy Award-winning movie, Dreamgirls, and; the three-book teen series, “Hotlanta. She also wrote Never Make the Same Mistake Twice for the Real Housewives of Atlanta star Nene Leakes, and served as an editorial consultant for Holly Robinson Peete’s new children’s book, My Brother Charlie. Millner’s book, Miss You, Mina, is the first in the 26-book Scholastic Candy Apple book series to feature an African American main character.

Millner is the editorial director of Denene Millner Books, an award-winning imprint that has published two Caldecott Honor books, a Newbery Honor Book, the Kirkus Prize for Children’s Literature and a Southern Book Award. A MacDowell Fellow, Millner has written essays for the New York Times, Glamour and NPR. Millner is a graduate of Hofstra University.

She lives in Atlanta with her two daughters and their goldendoodle, Franklin.
