Biography of Jackie Jones
Dr. Jackie Jones, also known by her pseudonym Harriet Berrien is an African American writer inspired by Black history. She was born on July 30, 1951, in Augusta, Georgia, and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother, Estella Hightower, was of Cherokee descent, and her father was African American. Growing up in a musically inclined family, Jackie is related to Rosetta Hightower, the lead singer of The Orlons, known for hits like “South Street,” “Don’t Hang Up,”and "The Wah-Watusi."
Jackie pursued her passion for music by majoring in the subject at Essex County Community College in Newark, New Jersey. Her diverse career encompasses roles as an entrepreneur, dancer, singer, actress, pianist, artist, screenwriter, and talent scout.
