Vanessa Vanzie is an Early Childhood Educator.

Born and raised in Crown Heights Brooklyn, New York, Vanessa is the eldest daughter of immigrant mother from Honduras. Raised in a single parent home along with her younger sister, Vanessa learned to take on many responsibilities at an early age. Initially, Vanessa was derailed from completing college by a baby and marriage. Years later, after a failed marriage and the eventual death of her mother, Vanessa went back to college. No longer a “spring chicken,” Vanessa put her all into college the second time around. She made up her mind to be a positive role model to her son and went on o earn her Associates degree in Education from Medgar Evers College. She is currently pursuing her Bachelors degree in English with an emphasis in Cross Cultural Literature. While working full time, Vanessa was able to make it unto the Dean’s List three semesters. She is also a proud member of The National Society of Leadership and Success.

Vanessa puts her leadership skills to good use as she actively works with children on and off the clock. Her free time and weekends revolve around church youth from the ages of 4 to 16. She finds teaching them to be leaders of the future is challenging and rewarding. Vanessa especially enjoys taking youth on weekend camping trips where she shows off her culinary skills on a propane stove. Setting up tents and cooking for so many is hard work but Vanessa knows that the wonderful memories will last a lifetime for the children. Summers would not be complete for Vanessa without serving as the leader of Vacation Bible School. Vanessa has found the fountain of youth, and it is in service to the impressionable youth of the community. She strives to make a positive impact on the lives of each young person that she encounters.

Vanessa is a loving mother to her son whom she adores above all else. She is a supportive sibling to her sister and a caring aunt to her young niece. Family is important to Vanessa and she opens her home to those who do not have the support system of a loving family. Her late mother had an open-door policy and Vanessa seeks to carry on the tradition. Life has so much to offer and Vanessa is determined to take hold of every opportunity to succeed. In the process, she plans to take as many young people along for the ride of their lives as she teaches them to reach for the stars and become the leaders of tomorrow.
