Chasing Dragonflies

Chasing Dragonflies is a hugely imaginative picture book about a baby girl taking her first steps and what that moment means to her big brother.

The sequel to Two People Can, winner of the Best Picture Book Prize at the Inclusive Books for Children Awards 2025, the story is written by award-winning Zimbabwean poet Blessing Musariri and illustrated by British artist Maisie Paradise Shearring.

A young boy named Shingai is impatient for his baby sister, Aneni-Rose, to grow up so they can go on epic adventures together to the world’s wildest jungles, the deepest, most shark-filled oceans, and the hottest deserts. As the older sibling, Shingai imagines himself as the hero, with his little sister as his sidekick. But as Aneni-Rose begins to find her own strength and take her first steps, Shingai learns that heroes come in all shapes and sizes—and that some of the most important adventures begin at home.
