About Me

Over the past 15-20 years, I have been writing short stories, one or two a year. I have been writing poetry and prose off and on for over 40 years, beginning with a series of poems to commemorate a cousin who passed away at age 19. I find inspiration for my stories from a muse, an inner voice that propels me to put thoughts and emotions into words. When I'm not writing, I use my engineering background to work as a safety consultant, assessing machines and robotics in preparation for sale to European companies. I am married with one dog, Petey and live in Brooklyn, MD – south of Baltimore. We also have five precious nieces who provide much fulfillment and joy. In my spare time, when I'm not reading - women's science fiction and historical mysteries, I am working on a labor of love – a 5 story miniature apartment building, filled with African-American art.

I developed a love for African-American history in my 20's doing presentations based on Ivan Van Sertima's book about African Civilizations and Technology, and essays from JA Rogers'  World's Great Men of Color. As my fascination about black history grew, I wanted to share it. So, as a labor of love, I began using Black History Month as an opportunity to pick a topic and delve into it, reading as extensively as possible, and sharing snippets of information with my friends via e-mail, daily when I could, weekly when I couldn't do daily. I looked at black millionaires, scientists, inventors, writers, poets, artists, politicians. I looked at our history in the military. I did the Civil Rights movement, the movers and shakers, and what happened in Alabama and Mississippi. I did the HBCUs and all of our major black organizations. And I lost it all when I switched jobs and didn't save it. I will always regret that. I travel extensively on my new job and could not put together my black history month essays, so instead I made Jeopardy boards. Feel free to check them out.
