  1. Hello! My name is Rebekah and I work for Iskanchi Press, a U.S. based indie publisher of African writing. This month, Iskanchi Press is excited to release Best of Isele Anthology, a collection of beautiful literary works from Isele Magazine. I’d like to put it forward for book review consideration. Best of Isele Anthology Edited by Ukamaka Olisakwe and Tracy Haught ISBN: 9781957810041 Nov. 30th, 2022 265 pages Synopsis: The anthology comprises 46 short stories, essays, and poems by 28 different authors—with a focus on African culture and traditions. These authors write about their own experiences and perspectives on varying topics. From short stories about the dark and the light, and how we loved then and now, to poems en route the world gathering notes of those in search of beginnings and those at their ends, and essays exploring the lost and the found, grief, being— the works in this anthology are unexpected and defiant of conventions. In myriad genres and styles and with the mere power and beauty of their words, the writers in this collection hold a prism to humanity, opening minds to new ways of seeing, of knowing. About the Editors and Magazine: Isele Magazine emerged at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. In the midst of everything, when everything felt uncertain, Ukamaka Olisakwe founded the magazine to highlight art and literature that embodied unity and community. Ukamaka was born in Kano, Nigeria and now resides in Vermillion, South Dakota. She was named one of the continent’s most promising writers under the age of 40 by the UNESCO World Book Capital for the Africa39 project. In addition, Tracy Haught is the managing and fiction editor for the magazine. Her work has been featured or is forthcoming in Awakened Voices, The Bridge, and Magnapoets, amongst other publications. In addition, Best of Isele Anthology has been given excellent advance reviews by authors like Chika Unigwe, praising the anthology as ‘an extraordinarily rich collection of works.’
