San Antonio Author Publishes Pride & Prejudice Adaptation
Publication date, Oct. 5, 2023. Desiree Kannel sets her second novel, The Delany Bennets, in 1999 at the fictional Martin Delany University, offering a new take on Jane Austen's famous work. The Bennet family are proud and original founders of this historical black college but learn that the new millennium will bring an end to the centuries long Delany Bennet relationship.
The Delany Bennets is a funny and heartfelt story that explores the challenges of sacred traditions and a family struggling with that change. Romance, forbidden love, and humor make The Delany Bennets a fun, yet insightful read. 
Desiree Kannel lives in San Antonio and leads creative writing classes for adults and youth. She is a teacher artist at Gemini Ink and leads after-school creative writing clubs at local schools. She has an MFA from Antioch University and a teaching credential from California State University Long Beach.
