Any idea why no HBCU had a masters in creative writing with all the black musicians or writers?

From Regina Brooks of Serendipity Literary Agency
Over the last 180 years, historically Black colleges and universities have nurtured some of the greatest literary minds of our time. Yet, across more than 100 HBCUs, not a single institution currently offers an MFA in Creative Writing.

That's why I'm excited to invite faculty members or administrators of a historically Black college or university to apply for the HBCU MFA Think Tank at the 2025 AWP Conference & Bookfair in Los Angeles, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The think tank will provide educators, writers, and administrators a collaborative space to formulate and explore plans for developing MFA programs at HBCUs through innovative problem-solving and interdisciplinary dialogue.

Ten faculty or administrators from HBCUs will be awarded a scholarship to attend the Conference. Applications are open now through November 22nd.
