Whilst reading the autobiography of Leroi Jones, Baracka himself mentioned a David Henderson poem that he was very impressed with. The poem itself was based on the 1964 Impressions hit, Keep on Pushing.

Anyway, Henderson was a co founder of the Black Arts movement and I was 'aware' of his name but couldn't quite place him.  After some minor research, the penny dropped. He wrote a biography on Jimi Hendrix ( which I've just ordered) and De Mayor of Harlem. I think he was partly responsible for the 1968 book, Black Fire: an Anthology of Afro

American Writing.

My first port of call was here for some information on Henderson but I couldn't seem to find him in the authors section.
