About Me
I'm an American writer living in the UK. I write fiction and creative nonfiction in the forms of short stories, personal essays, script, and novels. I'm interested in writing about silence, family, relationships, identity, motherhood/mothering, and interpretations of home.
My debut novel, Remembered, was published in 2019 (Dialogue Books/Little Brown) and in Feb. 2020 in the US/Canada (Blackstone Publishing). It has been long listed for the Women's Prize for Fiction (2019), The Not the Booker (2019), and the Jhalak Prize (2020).
Remembered is the story of Spring, an emancipated slave and mother, whose son Edward has been beaten by police for a crime he may or may not have committed. It's 1910 Philadelphia. Spring is guided by her dead sister to relive a painful past in order to lead Edward home.
I wrote Remembered for my Creative Writing PhD. In the UK, I write, teach, and create/co-create literary events like a monthly true-story open mic night, a literary salon, a radio show, and more. I get to know people and places through their stories. That's why I write.
