  1. These people are out of control. I pay for sponsored ads on Meta for an event I have coming up, targeting Black families who are homeschooling. The amount of racist Trump supporters posting racist gifs and memes is outrageous.
  2. For the Girls Who Do Too Much is a poignant and powerful collection of poetry by Khadijah Z. Ali-Coleman, the 2023 Poet Laureate of Prince George's County, MD. This collection serves as a tribute to the women who take on multiple roles, strive tirelessly, experience profound love, and occasionally lose themselves in the process. Ali-Coleman explores themes of loss, love, aging, work toxicity, mothering, and depression with unwavering honesty and tender introspection. This poetry book follows her debut collection, The Summoning of Black Joy, released in 2023. The collection explores the complexities of relationships through personal stories and vivid imagery, highlighting the poet's nuanced connection with her late mother, whose life tragically ended in 2014 due to a police cadet's reckless actions. The poems resonate with the universal struggle of balancing personal identity with the demands of daily life, making this collection a must-read for those who find themselves doing too much, too often. In For the Girls Who Do Too Much, Ali-Coleman offers a heartfelt exploration of the resilience, vulnerability, and strength that define the experiences of many women today. It is a celebration of the enduring spirit and an invitation to pause, reflect, and reclaim one's own narrative. Learn more here. Praise for For the Girls: Waiting to read this on my flight for my birthday was a gift I didn’t know I needed. Thanks for this beautiful collection. - Jade Weatherington, Founder of Teacher Jade's Writing Academy The silence survival requires is sometimes deafening, especially if you’re a poet and quite a good one at that. The unsaid has to go somewhere, and, for poet Khadijah Ali-Coleman, it goes into a poem called "Survival Tactics" in her most recent poetry collection, For the Girls Who Do Too Much. It was only after I had absorbed the theme of the poem that I noticed the rhyme scheme of the poem. I read the rhyming words as their own poem, a kind of internal poem-within-the-poem and that made the poem resonate even more. -Tichaona Chinyelu, author of Contraband Marriage, In the Whirlwind and Still Living on My Feet

  3. On January 11, 2025, Black Family Homeschool Educators and Scholars (BFHES) presents its 5th Annual Virtual Teach-in. By bridging the gap between scholarly research and practical application, BFHES aims to foster a thriving community for Black homeschooling families. Through innovative teach-ins, publications, and virtual platforms, since 2020, BFHES has empowered over 3000 families with culturally relevant resources, support, and knowledge. The BFHES mission is to create an affirming space where educators, researchers, and homeschooling parents can connect, share insights, and enhance the educational experiences of Black children. BFHES is committed to expanding the literature on Black homeschooling and providing opportunities for professional development, community engagement, and academic excellence. The annual virtual teach-in features live panels, workshops, and pre-recorded "coffee talks," bite-sized inspiration for new homeschooling parents. The teach-in attracts new homeschooling parents as well as parents continuing their homeschooling journey. Led by BFHES director and co-founder, Dr. Khadijah Z. Ali-Coleman, the teach-in attracts parents from around the United States and abroad. This year's presenters include Queen Taese Snowden, Akil Parker, Jade Weatherington, Kendra Price, Journei Bimwala, Jason Esters, Sherri Mehta, Matthew Rankin, and more. This year's keynote speaker is author and educator, Cheryl Carter. Cheryl Carter is a seasoned author, educator, and homeschooling veteran with over 30 years of experience. A mother of five, Cheryl has homeschooled all her children from the beginning, raising them to excel academically, spiritually, and socially. Her children’s accomplishments speak to her dedication: her oldest recently earned his doctorate, and another child is an adjunct professor. Her third child is a missionary and she homeschooled her teen twins for their elementary and middle school years. Cheryl has witnessed the evolution of homeschooling firsthand, from limited curriculum options in its early days to today’s abundance of resources, including the integration of online education as an essential tool. Cheryl has a deep commitment to enabling Black families to adopt homeschooling. She believes homeschooling has the potential to level the playing field in education, offering families an opportunity to break free from limitations and create customized learning environments. Carter's books include: Writing Success: Essential Writing Skills for the College-Bound Student: A Comprehensive College Preparatory Writing Program Grades 6-12; Inspire the Writer in Your Child! Revitalize Your Child's Love of Writing in 20 Easy Lessons; and Organize Your ADD/ADHD Child: A Practical Guide for Parents. Learn more at BlackFamilyHomeschool.org
