  1. Peace, what is it? Peace, where is it? Found sitting on the corner block of yesterday's memories. Ocean water rapid moves of thoughts that say much of nothing. The sun can only shine when the sky is blue, really? So it goes to say that underneath the stones of faces marked with dispare, marked with the etchings of time lost. Peace, found it in the middle of the rain soaked filters of urban bliss. Inside that passion is the peace twisted with north winds blowing south. Stretching upward, reaching open and as wide as the horizons. There is peace, there is oh yes peace, inside you. And So It Goes
  2. Be still! "pop" the comb connects with my small fingers in an attempt to keep my hands from getting burned by the prssing comb. Long, thick, black hair and I hated Saturdays. This day represented hair day in the house. You see momma did not spend money on things she could do herself. This is the day momma got us back for all the wrong we had done during the week, I am sure of it. Smoke, heat, and the constent sizzle of that pressing comb connecting with my hair and vaseline. Looking back on those days, a shear reminder that I miss momma, even after 30 years. I remember. August must have been a month of joy and sadness-joy of a new life being born yet with the sadness of what lies ahead unseen. I don't remember much as asmall child but, I do remember being a child. Momma was a beautiful black woman with gold filled smiles, hair that danced and curves that commanded attention. The words spoken were always of love and chastisment. God created in 1902 a Proverbs 31 Woman. The store managers and workers new her well. You see back in those days, you could get credit when your funds were low. Just take a note of the items needed and the date you will pay, if you paid as agreed, they extended credit. I remember, the family dinners where everyone drank Cold Duck, smoked Pall Malls and cussed like they was about to figth but wait, we are family. Thats how they showed love. Hot sunny days in the garden of bugs with rakes, hoes, and fish fertilizer. The smells were peutride but the harvest was plentiful with collard greens, green beans, corn and lest not forget those green onions. Those were the days of watch your back and your neighbors too. Those were the days of ol wives tales being told about back in the day, what back in the day? whose day? The day when coloreds had to enter through the back door, ride on the bus, in the back. Things have changed since then but things are still the same. If momma could see now, black President and freedom of speech. Black owned business and brats hanging on street corners with their pants hanging off their behinds, calling this a style. Oh how stupid they would feel for one of those back in the people to get in your face and dare you to blink but now, children with no respect for self or others, teenage baby boomes with no clue as to what life is. Jesus, who came to give us life has been tossed the side for the slick talking, smooth walking, abuse riddled souls, lost. I remember, when life was so much easier if, we just remembered.
  3. When the disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?”—Luke 9:54 James and John were called the “Sons of Thunder.” When they discovered a Samaritan village that would not receive Jesus, they were fully prepared to call down fire to consume the entire community! Perhaps they felt that through such a show of power, their gospel message might be enhanced. The two brothers were willing to sacrifice the lives of the villagers in order to further the cause of the gospel. Jesus rebuked them. Later, the apostles heard that Samaria had responded to the gospel (Acts 8:14). Who was commissioned to go and help them receive the Holy Spirit but Peter and John! God's purpose had not been to destroy those people but to save them. God chose not to rain down fire on the village, but to shower it with His Holy Spirit. What must have gone through John's mind as he saw those same people, whom he had been ready to destroy, now rejoicing in their salvation? How grateful he must have been that Jesus had prevented him from carrying out his plans! What an enormous contrast between man's thinking and God's! Man's thinking would have resulted in the destruction of an entire village. God's plan brought salvation to it. People will benefit far more from what God wants to give them than from your best plans. Have you been shortchanging the people around you by merely giving them your plans instead of God's?
  4. I am watcher. I sit back at lunch, on break, or in the mall and I just watch. It’s amazing what you see if you sit back in the cuts, as I like to call it and just watch. Even those close friends, family and associates. People close enough to you will no doubt show you who they are without saying a word. “Queen” Maya Anjelou said it best; If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't complain. You can learn a lot about a person just by watching and if you listen well you will learn even more about a person’s character, beliefs, and motives. One thing that is prevalent is the despair that most are living in and walking in daily with the mask of victory triumph. But deep down inside, they don’t like anything about themselves nor do they like you, for whatever reason, be it true or false. Most of the conversations I hear are like this, back in the day this or that. Back in the day he or she did this or that. I used to be but rarely do I hear, I am. God gives us a choice to either lead or follow. You cannot put a comma where God has placed a period. The young woman and men have a false notion of, the good life. Some of our seasoned men and woman are stuck, in the past. I say to this, you cannot unscramble eggs. Let it go, move on, burn the t-shirt and shred the cd. Everyday I witness to many and in my speaking, I get the question ask, how do you keep smiling? why are you so upbeat with everything that’s going on? How do you keep the positive energy you show? One word, God. I too have been caught in the status quo, the mentality of lack, and the desperation of how will I make it. But, with those thoughts I also have the thought of Jesus Christ, the one who bore my sins and yours, who died for all of us so that we would not have too. Then He rose. God, plain and simple. If its not working, change it. If it hurts, remove it. If it blocks you from your goal, turn around. You can do it and only you will do it, or it wont get done. Look ahead. Out of the mouth the heart speaks. If you speak defeat, you are. If you speak rage, you are. Stop it, step back and really look at the glass, is it half full or half empty?? You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it. – Maya Angelou
