Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson will succeed  Lori Lightfoot in the Windy City.

Mayor Johnson believes he will be able to tackle the crime problem through a holistic approach of 1) more detectives, 2) more job opportunities for young people, 3) better housing and 4) keeping guns out of the city.

It would be awesome if the n8gglets in Chicago took it upon themselves to stop killing each other.

Getting rid of the gangs would reduce the crime rate overnight. Eliminating drugs would clean up the rest.

The reality is there is no money in curing human dysfunction. However, problem people keep the criminal justice system and hospitals and prisons in business.

Good luck to brotha Brandon Johnson.  He has taken on a tall order. The best way to eat it is one bite at a time.

It is possible to reduce crime and treat drug addiction in the black inner city. We know in the 1990s violent crime rates went down. Drugs are a tougher problem. Moreover things will never be ideal so we need to focus on constant improvement instead.

One thing that will help is putting more people to work in living wage jobs. More importantly Brandon Johnson is making the well-being of poor and working class people a political priority. That's not something a lot of big city Democratic Mayors white or black have been doing.

By design.  Poverty, drug abuse and crime help to sustain the American economy.😎

Things are bad to say the least. However this society is fixable if we're willing to get involved. But if America is beyond reform then we're all in serious trouble because nobody is interested in a Socialist revolution or a Black Nationalist Sepratist struggle to form an independent Black state in North America. I say all this because accommodation and adaptation are not good options either.

Thanks ProfD...

I wish Detroit would elect another Black mayor and send that White outsider BACK outside to the suburbs where he belongs.

Chicago, like a lot of large northern cities....is suffering from Black BRAIN-DRAIN.
A lot of the smartest and most educated Black youth are leaving the city and heading down South to places like Atlanta, Charlotte, and Houston.....and out West to a lesser extent to places like Las Vegas and Phoenix.

Black youth need to see a vibrant future for themselves in cities like Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, and Milwaukee.

Major cities need to do a better of providing an environment for the brightest young folks to thrive while growing and inspire them to build their lives there.

The mayor of Washington DC was born and raised in the city. It definitely allows her to connect with the residents, young to old and poor to rich. 😎

This is where CREATIVITY comes into play.

AfroAmericans are some of the most Creative people on the planet, when we don't limit ourselves.
What Black mayors and politicians period need to do is study the problems and use their CREATIVITY to come up with viable solutions for them instead of following the script handed to them by their Caucasian counterparts.

Most White politicians know the solutions to most social problems, they PURPOSELY play dumb and ignorant because they don't really want to solve them.
They maintain their system by keeping people of color in a state of constant chaos and confusion.

First thing we need to know is whether or not AfroAmerican politicians are actually interested in Black empowerment.

If the politicians are only looking to enrich themselves in one way or another, nothing else matters to them especially not making  Black lives better.

Case in point...the current Vice POTUS has no desire to help Black folks. Securing Black votes and token spokesperson for the Democratic party are her primary objectives and responsibilities.😎

I'm going to say something that you may think sounds silly at worse, and simply non-productive at best.
It may make some of the most PRO-Black people's blood boil.....

I don't call Kamala Harris "Black".
Racially speaking, she's mixed.
However I DO consider her and AfroAmerican ethnicly.
And as long as she doesn't do anything in that office HARMFUL to AfroAmericans.....she's fine.
....as far as I'm concerned.

I would LIKE AfroAmericans in positions of power to use those positions to help our people.
But as long as they aren't HARMING our people, in my mind......just HOLDING an office is a victory in and of itself.

As she has claimed, the VP is mixed (Jamaican daddy and Indian mother) which makes her a person of color i.e. non-white

I'm willing to bet the VP wasn't running around on the campus of Howard University calling herself anything other than a Black person back in the day.

But, her position is par for the course like so many other HBCU educated and Greek letter organization affiliated n8gglets who have been running around waving their credentials to get jobs from white folks while paying lip service to the Black community.

I wonder how many Black brothas and sistas the VP sent to prison during her tenure as San Francisco District Attorney and Attorney General from 2004-2011.

The problem is this symbolism has been ongoing for a few decades now.

AfroAmericans holding positions of power and doing nothing to help our people is harmful by way of benign neglect.

Anybody can merely put their azz in a chair spin around in it. That's not constructive especially when it comes to dismantling the system of racism white supremacy. 😎

I'm in no way, shape, or form a Kamala Harris fan.
However let me offer a little push back not so much to defend her but to support MY assertion about AfroAmericans in office.

I wonder how many Black brothas and sistas the VP sent to prison during her tenure as San Francisco District Attorney and Attorney General from 2004-2011.

2 points on this:

1. That's a valid observation.
However she's no longer in THAT position right now.
She's in an even more powerful one, so the question is how much damage has she done to AfroAmericans in the position she's in currently?
And how much has she helped?

2. To keep it real, we should ask ourselves how many of those bruthaz and sistaz DESERVED to be locked up when she was DA?

We often talk about how the jails and prisons are full of Black people, however do we talk about the other BLACK VICTIMS that many of those Black folks are locked up for harming?
Yes many of our bruthaz and sistaz who are behind bars are innocent, and many in in for non-violent offenses, however many who are behind bars NEED to be behind bars for the protection of our community!
Not sure if we should feel more sorry for the hard core thug behind bars than the innocent brutha or sista they shot, stabbed, or beat up.

If you get a thug or gangsta off the street who's been killing and assaulting Black people, I would consider you an ALLY not an enemy.

The problem is this symbolism has been ongoing for a few decades now.

AfroAmericans holding positions of power and doing nothing to help our people is harmful by way of benign neglect.

I can understand that argument.
And I would have totally agreed with it 20 years ago, but today...not quite so sure.

IF...and I stress IF...they aren't harming our people and just doing their NON-HARMFUL duties in that position, why shouldn't they enjoy the fruits of their labor?
In a racist system such as this, shouldn't they be trying to achieve as much wealth and success as they can PERSONALLY since nobody else is going to give it to them?

Anybody can merely put their azz in a chair spin around in it.

LOL!!!
Excellent point.

That's not constructive especially when it comes to dismantling the system of racism white supremac

Again, what about the argument that simply BEING in that position is one more Black person in an important position.
One more Black person with a decent job.
One less Black person on the street begging or locked up.

Fighting systemic racism shouldn't be a ZERO SUM game where if ALL of our people don't have good jobs, nice houses, and positions of power then NONE of them should.  Sometimes it can be fought and dismantled at an individual level.

@Pioneer1, I understand and agree with some of your counterpoint.

Like anybody else, brothas and sistas guilty of harming others deserve to be locked up too.

But, I also know DAs will do whatever it takes to make their quotas when it comes to feeding the prison industrial complex. I hope she didn't use our people in that regard.

Sure, VP is a more powerful position. Just like the political party she represents, neither is doing much for AfroAmericans.

To me, it doesn't make sense to have power and not use it cconstructively especially for AfroAmericans considering the number of problems to be solved.

The reality is that AfroAmericans cannot afford to sit back and do nothing when they are in positions of power.

Let there be a  [insert minority group here] VP and watch the boats rise for their entire culture because they have a code.

Conversely, that's why the US will never have a POTUS of any other descent. The experiment with an AfroAmerican checked off that box.

The majority of AfroAmericans are not begging on the street or chilling in prison. However, opportunities to thrive could be better.

The system of racism white supremacy definitely cannot be dismantled with insolence and complacency in the form of AfroAmericans believing they have arrived.

Nothing is given to most AfroAmerican adults. They have to work for it. Those in a position to build a ladder or a bridge for those coming up have a responsibility and obligation to do so.

I'm not seeing that with AfroAmericans in power. I see them eating fruit and showing white supremacists that they're capable of treating their fellow AfroAmericans with benign neglect too.😎

What I'm asking is.....
At what point does the INDIVIDUAL Black man/woman take responsibility for their own success and drive towards power?

The AfroAmerican mayor, congressman, judge, President...they went to school and studied hard, they stayed out of trouble to keep their criminal records clean, they kissed all types of ass to get to meet people of influence....they did the work to get the opportunity to either be elected or appointed to the positions they are in.
They deserve what they were able to achieve for themselves.

Should they do more? Yes
Could they do more? Yes

However they can't put THEIR lives and careers on hold because half the niggas who went to school with them didn't want to do anything else but smoke dope and fight or sit up and have more babies than they can take care of.

They CHOSE to get educated and move up in power.
A lot of these niggas on the street CHOSE to fuck their lives up....no....I can't say they wanted to do that....they chose to smoke dope and engage in reckless behavior that DID fuck their lives up.

Black politicians can only do so much, but much if not most of it revolves around our people as individuals staying out of trouble, managing their money properly, and having responsible sex and taking care of our families.

@Pioneer1, there is no shortage of individually successful AfroAmericans who have taken responsibility to ascend the ladders and cross the bridges to wield varying degrees of power.  AfroAmericans have come a long way since the 1960s.

At the same time,  there is no shortage of dysfunctional AfroAmericans too.  For a number of reasons, some folks just can't or won't get right.

Nobody should have to put their lives and careers on hold in order to help people who have no desire to help themselves.  Survival of the fittest.

Black politicians as elected officials do have a responsibility to serve their communities from the poorest to the wealthiest.  That is the job they signed up to do.😎
