The yearlong celebration will begin with a kickoff event in the capitol of Columbus and close in Morrison’s hometown of Lorain. Partners in every county of the state will hold individual events including readings and discussions of her writing, talks with authors and important figures that Morrison influenced, school activities and writing contests, film screenings and performances inspired by her work, and much more.

Kimberly

Thanks for that post and the information.

It says your location is in Alabama....but you're promoting events all over Ohio, lol.

Lorain is near Cleveland, if memory serves me correct.
Those of us from Detroit and Flint used to go there to the Cedar Point amusement park....lol.

Hey there,

Yes, I'm looking forward to the year-long celebration and want to do my part in spreading the word and making sure Morrison is represented well. This year is the springboard for a 2031 celebration of Morrison in the state, 100 years after her birth. Both celebrations will be based in Ohio but there are writers, readers, and scholars all over the nation who are involved!

Google search says that Lorain is less than an hour from Cleveland.

I've never been to the Cedar Point Amusement Park, but I lived out my youth and teenage years in a community called Cedar Point so the name is so so familiar.

Good to meet you!

Was your community in Sandusky Ohio?

There seems to be a lot of Black events in Columbus Ohio lately.
On the African Diaspora Channel I saw there was some sort of Black Expo there either last year or earlier this year.

I actually LIVED in Columbus Ohio for a brief period of time at the advise of a friend.
I didn't see a lot of Black people outside of a pretty sizable Somali refugee population; but that was over 20 years ago.
