According to WHQR, the Upperman family has decided to stop awarding new scholarships at UNCW. University officials said scholarship language referencing African American students would need to be revised to comply with the UNC System’s updated equality policy. Linda Upperman Smith, daughter of the late physician Dr. Leroy Upperman, said removing references connected to her father’s vision would contradict the purpose of the family’s philanthropy. “There’s no way that we’re going to not follow my father’s wishes for the money to go to an African American student, so we’re not changing the wording,” Upperman Smith told WHQR.

Excellent move by the Upperman family. Hopefully, they will move that scholarship to an HBCU.😎

They need to figure out a more strategic way of getting the money to AfroAmerican students instead of going through the University.

A lot of White people will use anti-discrimination laws to reenforce their own racism by forcing YOU to obey the law while they work under the table.

For example......
They'll break all kinds of laws to hustle a bunch of illegal Latino immigrants into the country and on a job, but if YOU raise hell about it and point out how bias and racist the job is for preferring Latino workers -they'll point out that you can't discriminate based on ethnicity, nationality, or national origin.

It's relatively easy to make the scholarship independent of any particular school.

Just a matter of advertising to AfroAmerican students the scholarship exists & encouraging them to apply for it.😎

Or go the more direct "Frank Lucas" route....lol.

Find promising Black students in highschool who's dream is to go to college but are having financial hardships, and grant THEM the money directly.
Not all at once for them to waste it or get robbed of it; but piece-meal as they go through their courses.

Exactly. Illegal money has funded many college educated AfroAmericans.

Besides churches, education is one of the easiest ways to launder money.😎

When I said the Frank Lucas route, I wasn't implying that promising students should look to drug dealer money to go to school....lol.

I meant that like Frank Lucas didn't rely on getting his drugs from the Mafia but instead when directly to the source in Vietnam (or Cambodia???) to get his heroin, people in general who want to grant money to worthy Black students to send them to college should consider giving them the money directly instead of to some program that siphons it off and imposes a bunch of stipulations.

Many philanthropists do give scholarship money directly to the students.

Of course, many folks like to give scholarships to their alma mater or favorite schoola believing they will do the right thing with the money.😎
