December 8, 20187 yr comment_31814 I did a search on the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Hurston and didn't find anything here. I haven't read it yet but I'm hoping over the holidays I'll have some time to start. Ms. Hurston was a black writer living in Florida during the 1930s. This is supposed to be her best known and most controversial work, according to Amazon. It takes places in a black Florida town. She was accused of pandering to white readers by using black dialogue. The book was out of print for thirty years but was re-printed beginning in 1978. Has anyone read this who could comment on it? Report
December 8, 20187 yr comment_31815 Hi Marcus, Zora Neale Hurston's work is featured on the site and every book she has published, including the AALBC bestselling book, Their Eyes Were Watching God is reflected on this website. Enjoy! Report
December 9, 20187 yr comment_31831 Is this young man aware that Zora is a well known black writer, a colorful figure who came into her own during the Harlem Renassiance? A TV movie based on this book came out in 2005. It starred Halle Berry and Michael Ealy. Report
December 10, 20187 yr comment_31853 @Cynique obviously not. MANY people don;t have a clue who Zora Neale Hurston is. I'm going to start a new conversation about this. Every day I delete (don't approve) seemingly innocuous messages posted by people looking to get an account approved so that they can spam the forums. This message almost did not pass my sniff test. I tend to err of the side of caution. Report
