Also, if you know of any other self-published or indie authors, please ask them to share their info. We're in the process of selecting books for our 2019-2020 reading year, and we select at a 90/10 rate; 6 books by indies and 2 by traditionally published authors. We are a highly selective book club and decided during our business meeting to increase the # of books we read from 6 to 8. I'll be updating that info on the site soon.

This is the first request I've seen for indie authors only. I actually pride myself on building a database to answer a variety of questions regarding Black books. 

 

I could craft a query to answer this question, but the results would be quite large, unless I can narrow the list a bit.

 

Many authors have both self-published and published in the "traditional" fashion. Should these authors be excluded? Are you considering ebook-only authors? Are there specific genres you are interested in? Are you looking for booked pubbed during a soefic period (new, less than 5 years old), etc.

We are primarily looking for books by self-published authors who have published  within the last three years. We are open to reading fiction, drama, memoirs, historical fiction; our only exception is erotica and books we consider the "thug genre," e.g. Iceberg Slim, Sex Chronicles, etc. 

 

We have an expanded list of traditionally published books, so we are not looking for those. However, we are having a difficult time  finding quality books written by indie authors, which we need to read to support the mission of our book club.  We welcome your assistance as we need to select our books before the end of July.

Hi! My name is Vernetta Norman. I have nine(9) published books for ages  for the young and the young at heart.  My publishing's are on Amazon.com, Good Reads, Facebook and Twitter, as well as on Demand in most bookstores.

I've written  several short plays along with a book of quotes(non-published).

Presently, I'm  in the process of completing my tenth(10) book/ a  real- novel in which people will never forget it's name.

Synopsis 

 

Rolami is a place where culture and tradition hold the fabric of society together. Its custodians are the gods of Rolami and their servants, the elders and the chief’s council. This council ensures no one dare defies them. The Chiefs have the spoken oracle of the gods. Lami, the young daughter of a village chief leads a revolt against age-long traditions which seem to marginalize women. Her fight is much to the chagrin of the council of chiefs and her family. They had great difficulty managing her insurrection because of her privileged status and the growing sentiments for change in the youths. This discontent is ignited by her message of enlightenment. Her severe punishment sets up a cataclysmic set of events that lead to irreversible changes in the village of Rolami. Are these changes for better or worse? It depends on who is telling the story and who is listening.

Wole Akosile is a psychiatrist and addiction medicine specialist based on the Gold coast, Australia. He is also an African-Australian author, novelist, and playwright. His works have been performed in several sold-out stage plays at the University of Ibadan and University College Hospital Ibadan, Nigeria in his undergraduate years by theatre groups he founded. When he is not writing, he loves to spend time with his family, and he is a gym enthusiast who likes to beast It up. The gods of women have gone mad is his debut novel.

I wish I had seen your post sooner.  If it's not too late, I would like to direct you to my website - www.daviddoc.com - where you will find a variety of books, fiction and non-fiction. My latest is Body and Soul, which I titled for the classic improvised lyrical phrases of the 1939 Coleman Hawkins jazz performance of the same name.  On the first page of the story, which opens in 1940, Peter Daniels plays the song loud enough to drown out the humming tubes on his living room phonograph and dances with his wife to celebrate the birth of their only grandchild, Adam Daniels, the story's protagonist. 

 

Though Adam's birth provides joy for his grandparents, it hurts his mother since her son was born bi-racial in 1940 Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  The story descriptively outlines the standards of the time and even takes a look back into the early 1900s.  After the look further back in history, the book details Adam's journey into manhood, during which he starts a family and a career in law.  But like Hawkins adlibbed with unanticipated riffs in his song, I improvise Adam's life story in unexpected shifts that changes the setting to El Centro, CA and even into Mexico.

 

Through it all, the story emphasizes the importance of family and the strength one gains from the connections whether through blood or embraced by choice.  And like Hawkins' music, it ultimately demonstrates a new way to tell an old story, ending with a sense of glowing satisfaction.
