Biography of H. Beecher Hicks III
H. Beecher Hicks III is an accomplished executive and an inspiring public speaker with a background as an investment banker, management consultant, private equity investor, and as an entrepreneur. Henry also worked as a White House Fellow appointed by President Bill Clinton. While working in financial services he completed more than $1 billion in financial transactions, including the privatization of electric utility companies in South America in the 1990’s and completing a leveraged buyout for his own account while a partner with Red Clay Capital Holdings, LLC.
Henry launched the AmeriCorps Promise Fellows program on behalf of President Clinton and General Colin Powell while working as the Senior Advisor to the CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Henry was the founding President and CEO of the $60mm National African American Music Museum (NMAAM) which opened in Nashville, TN in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Having previously served as the organization’s board chair, this project stretched Henry to build curatorial, construction, and music industry related skills and relationships to complement his public speaking, fundraising, team/culture building, and operational skills. The museum opened to consumer and critical acclaim and is heralded as an innovative blend of scholarly and technologically driven institutions.
He also served as the CEO of the National Black MBA Association where he created the organization’s current strategic plan and initiated a series of revenue diversification efforts. He now serves as an executive with a portfolio company of private equity firm Red Arts Capital.
Henry is honored to have served on several boards of directors including United Therapeutics Corporation (NASD: UTHR), the Roosevelt Foundation, and several nonprofit boards in Atlanta, GA and Nashville, TN. He has been honored with the Spirit of Nashville Award from the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Power Moves Award from Williams Enterprises, the Icon Award from Unplugged Music Experience, and recognized as an Icon Mann honoree. Henry is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (the Grammy’s) and of the Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (the Boule’).
Henry earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in marketing from Morehouse College and his MBA from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He is a fellow of the Young American Leaders Program at Harvard Business School. Henry has twice been selected to be the speaker for the Martin Luther King dinner in the city of Dalton, GA, has delivered a Ted Talk entitled “One Nation Under a Groove,” and keynotes often for civic and corporate groups around the country. Henry has frequently contributed to the Tennessean newspaper as an opinion/editorial contributor, and has been writing to his blog, DreamBigThenExecute.com, for more than a decade.
Henry has been married to his college sweetheart, Crystal, for more than thirty years. The couple have two grown sons; Henry IV is a journalist and activist living in Washington, DC and Harrison is a composer and sound designer living in Atlanta, GA.
