Micah Johnson
Biography
Micah Johnson is a multidisciplinary artist, author, and former Major League Baseball player. A “proud Hoosier” and dedicated “girl dad,” Johnson has transitioned from a professional athletic career to becoming one of the most influential Black creators in the contemporary art and literary space.
Johnson’s career as an artist was ignited by a powerful question from his nephew: “Can Black boys be astronauts?” This sparked the creation of Aku, a young Black boy donning a space helmet, who has since become a global symbol of dreaming without limits.
Through Aku, Johnson has bridged the gap between traditional fine art and the digital frontier. His work has been featured on the cover of TIME Magazine and has reached millions through high-profile collaborations with brands such as Starbucks, MLB, New Era, and Beats by Dre.
