Tamara Morgan
Biography of Tamara Morgan
Tamara Morgan is a Berkeley, California native and an alumna of UC Berkeley and Stanford Law School. She has been an avid reader, book collector, and crafter of stories since kindergarten.
Tamara was supported by a sister circle of women who pushed, pulled, prodded, and praised her as she worked her way through community college, UC Berkeley, and Stanford Law School. While at Stanford, Tamara juggled the roles of mother, guardian, law student, newspaper carrier, research assistant, extern for a prominent federal judge, and law firm intern. The load was heavy, but she was determined and resilient.
Decades of serving as a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Leader and an employment law attorney deepened her appreciation for the behaviors and beliefs that unite people and prove that we are all rooted through stories. She has served on boards of nonprofit organizations devoted to the support and empowerment of at-risk, marginalized, and disadvantaged individuals.
Outside of work, Tamara has been committed to providing support and encouragement to Black women and families facing adversity. Tamara and her daughters founded Crystal Stair Enterprises to support, nurture, and empower Black women and families. They have hosted Define, Be, Love Yourself (DBLY) workshops for women to gather, learn, and inspire one another. The name of the organization was inspired by the Langston Hughes poem Mother to Son, which acknowledges the obstacles and challenges that can cause people to stumble, fall, or give up, yet encourages perseverance and determination.
As a retiree, Tamara is focused on her new journey as an author. Her life is continually enhanced by her awesome daughters, granddaughter, grandsons, and three dogs. Tamara’s faves include: the color yellow, peach cobbler, Their Eyes Were Watching God, hummingbirds, ginger ale, Love Jones, live music, and the sound of her late husband’s laughter.
