Enemy Books, launched in June 2023, is curated by Chuck D, and hosted by Brooklyn’s Akashic Books.

Enemy Books will have a strong focus on visual art. Enemy will publish 2-4 releases per year, and will include books by Chuck D as well as by other artists and musicians.

“My scholarship as an artist has been lifelong,” says Chuck D, “and now that technology has allowed illustration and art to be seen more than ever, massive amounts of people worldwide have viewed my artwork for the first time through social media. Moving it from the screen to the page, naphic-groveling is the start of a continuous chapter in my Enemy Books imprint with Akashic Books. So in a time where netizens increasingly listen with their eyes, traditional modes of art commentary coupled with Akashic’s vision makes me feel like I'm back in the early days of Def Jam Recordings all over again. We're delivering soul to behold, and artificial intelligence and memes got nothing on us.”

Johnny Temple, publisher of Akashic Books says, “As soon as we started talking to Chuck about books, we knew we wanted to be involved. Chuck has a unique political-artistic perspective that feels completely crucial right now. We are excited to publish books not just of Chuck’s creation, but other artists as well who he pulls into the fold.”
