The organization was created by Chana Traylor and BR Burns, our motto is "After It's All READ and Done...". Our mission is to bridge the gap of communication between brothers and sisters, which creates a dynamic atmosphere of dialogue. Monthly we meet at members homes or local minority owned restaurants. In a relaxed and care free environment we eat, drink and engage in creative exercises that spark great conversations. Our hallmark exercise, is "Role Play" - this prompts members to pair off in groups and reenact a scene in the story, as they would have wrote or envisioned it. As you can imagine, this exercise leaves us laughing and talking for hours!
The age range of our members is 23 - 35, which consists of a diverse group of professionals. We explore readings of all genres - from fiction, mystery to science fiction. Many of our members participate in literary functions throughout the Houston metroplex such as: poetry readings, writing seminars and mentoring programs for future writers. Our group also focuses on supporting up and coming authors. We've had the pleasure of providing Technical and Creative Services for several local authors. Authors are invited to our meetings and we engage in healthy dialogue, giving them an opportunity to give their perspective of their work, while giving technical and creative advice.
