Notes:

TABAHANI is a West African term that means, to be well educated. The club is a circle of readers dedicated to increasing literacy in the African American community by Supporting African American authors, supporting African American booksellers, encouraging reading for pleasure and sharing the joy of reading with future generations. Membership in TABAHANI is by invitation only. We meet separately except for the first and last meetings of the year and at the presence of an invited author. As a book circle we read at least one book every month written by an author of African descent. At least once a month we participate in reading to children at the A.C. Bilbrew Library in Los Angeles. Whenever possible we host literary events to expose others to the works of African American authors. We come together once a month at the home of one of our members for good food, shared opinions and views of our selected "Book of the Month" and just plain good old "Fun". A newsletter is published monthly to recap the latest meeting and appraise the members of the latest releases and upcoming events. This past April eleven of our members had the opportunity to travel to Virginia Beach, VA to participate in A Literary Retreat for Women Who Love To Read.
