"Of Time and Spirit" is a heartfelt tribute to my beloved father, James Roswell Dorsey Sr. (1919-2000). As his son, I share his incredible journey to inner peace and the challenges we faced in our father-son relationship, striving to communicate and understand each other.

This book is not only a personal account but also a historical chronology, meticulously compiled from a treasure trove of my dad’s belongings. It includes his personal papers, military records, civilian personnel records, and even notes jotted down on scraps of paper. The contents are enriched with the many conversations we shared throughout my lifetime, especially those poignant talks we had during the later years of his life.

As I matured into a man, I began to comprehend and appreciate his deepest feelings, thoughts, and wisdom. My father had a desire to undertake this project himself before his passing, but age and ill health prevented him from realizing it. Now, I fulfill his wish by presenting this small fraction of the remarkable man he truly was.

Despite its limitations, this book immortalizes my father’s life in history, preserving his legacy for generations to come. "Of Time and Spirit" stands as a testament to his enduring presence, and it is my humble tribute to the extraordinary individual he was.
