    Paperback Description:

It was 1968 and Miles Decker had just turned 18. Like all other 18 year old boys, he had to register for the draft. His father is a World War II veteran and is very strict with Miles. He and Miles don’t see eye-to-eye on the Vietnam War - Miles is against it and his very patriotic father feels Miles should serve his country proudly.

That fall, Miles started his first year of college at UCLA. He enjoyed his life on campus. He had a new best friend and a girlfriend. He found himself involved in the campus anti-war movement and ended up burning his draft card on national television, making him a criminal.

Miles fled to Paris that day to avoid persecution. When there, he was robbed, his passport taken with his belongings. He found himself alone without a way out of France, unable to go to the consulate for help as he is wanted in the United States.

After being homeless on the streets of Paris, Miles is taken in by a wealthy widow and learns much about himself, love and making the right choices.

Miles Dekker, an 18 year old from Santa Monica, California is coming of age during the Vietnam war in 1967.

Miles has been drafted into the Army and refuses to comply. He flees to Paris, France on a forged passport to avoid military service and the consequence of that refusal.
