What would you do if you arrived at a surprise birthday party with the hearing-impaired, speech impaired birthday boy in-tow only to discover all the guests brutally murdered? What if you didn’t have a clue whom it was that committed the murders? Was it the mob? Was it a member of the Intelligence Community? Was it political? Did it have something to with the law? What if you had reason to believe the faction that orchestrated the murders were really after you? What if you didn’t know what to do, or whom to turn to, but you know you couldn’t go to the police?<

“Hello. I started Dummy, by John Gibson, yesterday. I’ve just finished it. This was a damn good book. It was not what I expected. I’m sure you all have read the book description. It’s a tad misleading. Here’s why. Although, the book does deal with a lawyer and a deaf-mute janitor walking into an apartment with four dead people in it, including the lawyer’s fiancée, the book is much more than a murder mystery. It’s a political thriller. One that reaches to the very power of the country. I wasn’t expecting a political thriller.

Actually, I had coped a major attitude. As I started reading the book, I was saying to myself, I didn’t sign on for this. In spite of myself, the pages kept turning at a quick pace. Then without realizing it, I was knee-deep in it. Gibson has some excellent twist and turns in Dummy. Towards the last 1/4 of the book, I kept thinking, boy I wish Alfred Hitchcock was still alive so he could direct the film version of this book.

Even if you don’t follow the CWMYB reading group, get Dummy anyway. It’s an excellent book. Now, I really can’t wait to discuss it with Gibson.“
