For quite some years I have been dreaming about a crossover racing game which would include Wave Race, 1080° Snowboarding, and Excitebike. With 2021 being N64’s 25th anniversary, I thought that now might as well be the time to share my wish.

Two of these three series got their life started on Nintendo 64 (Wave Race and 1080° Snowboarding) and did receive sequels since, but even those were quite some time ago. And though Excitebike got a spiritual successor in Excite Truck (with the OG title being on NES), it’s N64’s outing that I’m probably most fond of.

My idea for the game has you dropping out of a helicopter, snowboard attached, and lets you begin cursing down a mountain, weaving in and out of trees, going off ramps, breaking through secret paths, and competing with others till you reach the bottom.

When you get to the bottom of the hill, you launch up into the air from off your snowboard and onto your jet ski. Here begins the water racing experience, going between buoys, catching air from waves, finding shortcuts through caves, and passing up fellow jet skiers, as you circle the coast. Once again, upon reaching this segment’s finish line, you’re thrusted into the air and onto your motocross bike.

Now that you’re on your bike, begin tearing through mud and forest, as you race others on a different side of the very mountain you started on, making your way towards the finish.

In this story mode scenario, each racing experience has three checkpoints which count as three different laps. That makes for a nine linear traveling lap experience.

My vision has a game with eight separate mountains/coasts/terrain, so that you get eight of each snowboard/jet ski/motocross locales to race on. You will also see other racers in the far distance whether you are ahead or behind them, even if they are in a different section of the race.

And finally, you can opt to just independently play Wave Race, 1080° Snowboarding, or Excitebike courses if you want a shorter race.

Couch racing for four, online for more, leaderboards, etc. each of the three racing games nowadays if sold for $60 a pop, might not be convincing enough to buy for the modern gamer. All three bundled into one grand experience, I think would be an easy sell and something so different than Mario Kart, that neither would cannibalize the others’ sales.

I also made a video that further highlights some of my details and uses plenty of hand gestures to explain my ideas, ha ha. Is this something you’d buy for Nintendo Switch? Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Edit: (A few more bits from my video) Courses could by the way, go in a different order: 1) Jet Ski from one island to another, hop on your motocross, and make you way up the mountain, to then snowboard down the other side. 2) Motocross from the bottom of the mountain to the top, proceed to snowboard down the opposite side, and then jet ski around the bend, making your way back into the mountain, traveling up a raging river. Oh and I did talk in the video about making the jumping out of the helicopter part, Pilotwings-like, so there always is the potential of this being a 4-way title with some more tweaking.

Second edit: I forgot that the Wave Race series was actually born on Game Boy in 1992 and not the N64.
