Join @CRLiterature as we celebrate #CreativeFreedom and give you the opportunity to earn a profile badge for your original literature deviation!
We figured that in a literature challenge that allows for freedom, nothing is more freeing in literature than the run-on sentence. As a "run-on sentence" doesn't have a universal definition, for the sake of this artistic challenge we will define a run-on sentence as the following: a very long sentence, especially one lacking order or coherence. So take the liberty to create a literature deviation free of punctuation, capitalization, apostrophes, or anything even resembling structure or order. It's anarchy in about 250 words on whatever topic you'd like, just remember to tag your literature deviation with #CreativeFreedom to grab your profile badge.
Our faithful @CRLiterature Ambassador @WritingDD2R provided some interesting literature to inspire creating. Have you ever heard of Ducks, Newburyport from Lucy Ellmann? The following video is an excerpt read by the author.
The book is over one thousand pages and is mostly one sentence! Ducks, Newburyport, a book that is basically just one long run-on sentence, won or placed in the following awards:
Longlist, 2020 Prix Médicis étranger
Winner, 2019 Goldsmiths Prize
Shortlist, 2019 Booker Prize
Winner, 2023 Kulturhuset Stadsteatern's International Literature Prize
Pretty crazy right maybe you could do something similar for this @CRLiterature contest and win prizes maybe you will create something so outlandishly long as a run-on sentence that newspapers in your country will take notice and send you their most coveted literature awards perhaps a Hollywood producer stumbles across your imaginatively immersive work and contracts you to turn it into the next blockbuster movie you won't know unless you try!
