  1. I suspect I’m one of a small handful of Black indie writers who write an African-American Historical Fiction series.
I post daily on Instagram what I call this date in “white history.” It’s not Black history because to quote my favorite African Proverb: “Until the lion tells the story, the hunter will always be the hero.”

Every day, I post an episode of white history describing murders of men, women, and children, court rulings declaring us less than human, and terrorism directed toward Black Americans somewhere in America. It’s called “this date in white history.” When you understand their history, you must write about it. We need to tell people about white history. The Klan bombed a civil rights icon’s home in Birmingham on December 25, 1956. On Xmas day!
Teach white people their history of violence and bigotry. Will it make a difference? I don't know

  2. Before Podcasts, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and countless other outlets there were Black newspapers, magazines, and books to document our history.

During the early days of segregation, they banned the Chicago Defender in the South! Now they want to whitewash history.

The role of Black literature regardless of format is to preserve our incredible story for future generations. We need to tell the story our way. An African Proverb “Until the lion tells the story, the hunter will always be the hero.”

@aMhayes my apologies for any confusion. I meant that you should share your stories on the Black Excellence Showcase discussion forum on this aalbc site.  I misstated the forum name when I called it Black Greatness Forum.

    @richardmurray Brilliant idea

about the writers on aalbc doing a book together, each making one story. We can make it free and publish it across platforms, thus we each can highlight aalbc and carry our fanbases to each other!!  BRILLIANT!!

    @Troy what are your thoughts?

    that's a great idea.

  4. History tells us we should be very concerned

I have documented through the whileBlack Chronicles’ the Country’s violent response to maintain the status quo after slavery ended in 1865. I can only assume free Black people intimidated you to the point you fell back on what you do best.

Fast Forward 2023: Homegrown terrorists are ready to protect white men hell-bent on getting elected and never leaving. Never underestimate the violence these people are capable of. The former governor of Arkansas said,” We will either win in 2024 by the ballot or the bullet.”

But I’m amazed at folks who tell me they can't support Biden so they will either not vote or vote for a third party. If enough people do that, our lives will change, and not in a good way.

If not Biden then any Democrat will be better than the alternative whomever it might be.

  5. When I try to post a blog for some reason I'm landing on the Godaddy page telling me my request has been denied by the firewall. Other functions are working fine, ie Forums,

This happened last week. Yesterday I was able to post a blog and now once again I'm getting the Godaddy message.

Is anyone else having  this issue?

  6. I enjoy writing African-American historical fiction stories. The whileBlack Chronicles’ expose how truly terrifying it must have been for our Elders. We need to continue to tell our story. It’s a fascinating history of survival when told from a different perspective. Black literature is critical to our mental health.

@aMhayes Politics, religion and conversations with inebriated & ignorant individuals of another (who feel inclined and/or think they understand) are three areas that I stay away from for sooooo many reasons, but, Yes, my chocolate brother, I, have an opinion, but...

p.s. I had this long explanation typed out but opted to delete it and keep it simple.

Dee thanks for taking the time to read what I posted. Stay tuned I have other thoughts you might have an opinion on. lol

  9. The Senator from Florida, Marco Rubio, has woken from his slumber. He posted on Facebook, “Sadly, Daylight Saving Time is coming to an end yet again.”  Such an important issue in the overall scheme of things. Thank you for your insight.

Now he is proposing a bill to stop federal dollars from going to colleges that enable anti-American terrorist supporters. What the hell does that mean? How do demonstrations at Universities enable terrorist supporters? We have Nazis marching in Florida and you and the Governor are silent. I asked him to name the groups. No response.

This is dangerous because Republicans can use this to affect voting from young people. Does that mean if students support Palestinians we can expel them? It depends on what’s added by the Republicans. What happens if they decide BLM is anti-American, and should be on the list?

The FBI says the greatest threat to America is homegrown white terrorists. Politicians ignore this real threat. I don’t trust any Republican. This bill has the potential to expand to groups it did not intend to address and ignore the real threat.

  10. Another day in America as our thoughts and prayers go out to those folks murdered in Maine. Maine residents don’t require carry permits. A referendum in 2016, which aimed to enforce background checks for non-hunters, was defeated.

No worries, we will shift our attention to the Israelis and the Palestinians. The US is all lined up behind the Israel onslaught on civilians with weapons supplied by our military-industrial complex. Thousands on both sides killed.

There will never be a winner. Wars are creating another generation of terrorists seeking revenge. I don’t pretend to know all the complexities of the situation, but I know the Palestinians live under circumstances strikingly similar to Apartheid and Segregation.

    Thoughts?

  11. The Supreme Court agreed to hear a redistricting case that may have repercussions for people of color who vote. South Carolina Republican lawmakers moved over 140,000 residents from the 1st Congressional District into the 6th Congressional District. The NAACP argues the Legislature moved over 30,000 of those residents because they were Black, violating the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Folks need to grasp the idea that the Constitution guaranteeing the right to vote doesn’t apply to us. We are fighting the same battle to vote as my father, his father, and his father. Jesse Helms said, “Anyone can vote if they are qualified.”

See the voting test. Were you qualified?

  12. What does that mean? During the sixties, the South expelled Black students demonstrating for civil rights. Now, the Republicans demand that the government revoke and expel the visas of any students who speak out to support Hamas or the Palestinians. How about you expel the Nazis marching in the streets?

We better pay attention to the students because they will not tolerate bullshit!

Is it a stretch to compare the two?

  13.  What’s interesting to me about this review is that he/she claims to have read “quite a few books on the Civil War” and never read that slaves had it bad. How is that possible?? Think about that for a moment.

“If Cotton Could Talk” is not about slavery but a story about relationships created by strangers who meet on a Mississippi plantation with one goal in mind, freedom. I certainly don’t consider it to be a Civil War book!

On the other hand, it’s still a great review!

  14. Why I Became An Author A Hint It Sure Wasn’t To Make A Lot Of Money lol

I’m a 77-year-old retiree who decided two years ago to try my hand at writing an African-American historical fiction story. I majored in Sociology at Tennessee State University, so I have no formal training in journalism or writing. Did I just wake up one day and decide to become an author?

Believe it or not, that’s pretty much what happened!

As you go through life, you never know what event or situation may take you in a direction you never would have expected or be a wake-up call. My wake-up call was the movie “Hidden Figures.” I had one thought after watching the movie: Why didn’t I learn about these smart trail-blazing amazing Black women in school, or did I miss a documentary during Black History Month?

In response, starting with a thought, an African American historical fiction story developed to become “If Cotton Could Talk.” I’m honoring Hidden Figures by writing a story about how we have always been family-orientated, smart, and when pushed, feared.

On a different topic, I’m thinking about something that might be fun. Can you create a situation, and a time period, pick a story suggestion, and write a short story? You authors may use this to help fine-tune your writing skills.

Is anyone interested? If there’s enough interest, I’ll put something together.
