Pioneer1 Posted December 5, 2024 Report Posted December 5, 2024 What's up with this new movie Wicked they're promoting heavily, especially towards Black girls? Black "Wicked" fans say the film has deep political and cultural resonance | Watch Every other article is about how some green witch, played by a Nigerian/British sista Cynthia Erivo...resonates with the struggles of being a "Black woman" in society. I don't like the racial undertones of that, nor do I like the fact that Black people and the word "Black" itself is constantly being associated with Wicked. It's sends terrible subliminal messages to the subconscious of many Black children. On top of that...... It appears that our sista....Cynthia...is part of the LGBTQIA+ community and no doubt this is a major reason they are promoting her. Why did SHE as a Black woman have to play the role of wicked witch? Why couldn't Ariana Grande (who is "Whitish")...who also starred in the movie...play it, instead?

Instead of reparations, Black folks get more DEI opportunities on the big screen. For decades, Cinderella and wicked witches were white. Black folks made enough noise in Hollywood about expanding their roles in film/TV. Here it is in the form of Wicked. There's other movies where Black men are given *higher* profile roles too Check our Denzel Washington in Gladiator II. Most interesting is that a lot of non-FBA folks are being selected for Black roles.

I think she was selected because she can sing her ass off. But to your point, I think it would have been a Genius move if Cynthia's and Ariana's roles were reversed, but you and I know why that would not have happened--unless there were Black people involved.
Pioneer1 Posted December 8, 2024 Author Report Posted December 8, 2024 Ariana Grande can sing also. She could have just as easily played the role Cynthia played. This is just one more chapter in the narrative of further demonizing Black people. Every so often they have to keep "refreshing" it. Not only do they have to demonize Black men in the media and make them look like criminals (and now sexual predators with the P.Diddy scandals); but they also have to go after Black women from time to time and make them look more masculine and evil as compared to the White women. We saw this several months ago with the "Angel Reese vs Caitlyn Clark" thing where they kept trying to make the AfroAmerican girl look like the "bad girl" and make her rough and masculine compared to the "sweet gentle all-American" Caitlyn. Even the NAME of this movie: Wicked And how they keep trying to FORCE it on Black youth, especially Black female youth talking about it's something Black girls can "relate" to. WTF??? Look how they constantly try to equate and join "Black people" and "Black culture" and "Black women" with "Wicked". It's high psychology. Ofcourse I don't hear a lot of Black women complaining about this. Probably not on their radar. I'm curious to know what Chev, Cynique, Mel, and Lady Gaga have to say about this issue....if anything. Not curious enough to actually @ping them....lol; but if they happen to come across the thread, it would be interesting to hear their thoughts about all of this media hype this movie is getting.
aka Contrarian Posted December 8, 2024 Report Posted December 8, 2024 Ironically, the character Cynthia plays is a witch who has green skin. So she had to wear green make-up to cover her brown skin, something whoever plays the role has to do. The only young girls the character could serve as a role model for are ones who have green complexions or - frogs. 1

Clearly, we need more Black filmmakers than Tyler Perry. Especially considering his shows and movies typically show Black men as abusive or some other negative light. 5 hours ago, Pioneer1 said: Not only do they have to demonize Black men in the media and make them look like criminals (and now sexual predators with the P.Diddy scandals); but they also have to go after Black women from time to time and make them look more masculine and evil as compared to the White women.
