The current administration facilitated the $14 billion dollar sale of TikTok to a group of investors including Oracle and billionaires Rupert Murdoch and Michael Dell among others.

 

Oracle, owned by billionaire Larry Ellison will own a huge stake in TikTok. He also just bought Paramount. That means he has control over them.
 

The best way to control information and content is to own it. Instead of starting a network or social media company or app, just buy one of the most popular existing companies.

 

It would be awesome if Black folks could have made such power moves.

Where did all of this talk about TikTok being a source of Chinese propaganda come from that these Republicans were crying about a little while back?

Although we do need to own our own social media platforms, I don't think we should ignore the grass while focusing on the flowers.
We need to make sure we own national television stations, radios, and news papers!

Social media is a good way to reach SOME people, but a lot of people....older and a surprising number of younger people....still love to sit back on the couch and relax and WATCH television or LISTEN to the radio.
The Civil Rights and Black Power Movements were carried largely by Black owned news papers and radio stations and later on in the 70s and 80s we started buying television stations.
We should have kept them.

Right, I actively avoid consuming content on social for reasons I can go on with all day long.  So it does not matter to me who owns it as I don't use it.  

 

If Black folks owned it, and it operated the same way, I still would not use it.

Ownership means content control. We don't have to use it negatively.

 

The face of BET ownership was a black man but the investors behind the scenes were not Black.

 

Once BET was sold to Viacom, content programming went off the rails. They served up a whole bunch of mental junk food.  McDonald's for the brain.

Regardless of which way the political winds blow, white folks are comfortable being [insert class here] because as long as they're white...they believe they're better than non-white folks and therefore can't *lose*.

This presumes there are no greedy Black men standing in line and ready to take the place OF the greedy White boys...lol.

When you say we need to do things that will serve us, keep in mind there are a lot of exploitative Black folks inside of that "us" who love how the system operates.

The ONLY problem they have with this system is that they aren't PART of it to the extent they want to be.

Actually, what I see as a bigger problem than using social media for greed and exploitation is using it for crazy 'hood shit and violence.
An increasing number of people are using social media to set folks up for robbery and just in general trade threats and meet up to commit assault and murder!

As I mentioned earlier, a lot of this comes from laziness and apathy.

The FCC rules and regulations notwithstanding......nobody is actually STOPING our people from establishing television stations, news papers, radio stations, and INVENTING other forms of technology to communicate with eachother.

National television stations....though not as interactive...is just as good if not better at mass communicating ideas and important information than social media.


We are a very creative people, why wait on White folks to let us in to a market when we can innovate one ourselves?

But it start with DESIRE, and that's the issue.

Laziness....lack of motivation....that comes from being happy and satisfied to get what White folks are offering.

The average Black man/woman (especially women....lol) is very happy to participate in all of the latest forms of social media that White people control whether it's Meta or X or Instagram.....doesn't matter.

You want to see them crying and upset?
Let them get kicked off or suspended or thrown in "facebook jail" for a few days where they can't come on and talk the usual trash.
A lot of these nigga sit up with their arms folded and cry like babies because some White kid in a cubicle somewhere deemed their content "inappropriate" and suspended their account.

Trying to OWN that platform or making some "power move" to prevent this from happening is the FURTHEST thing from their minds.
Ownership requires THINKING and MANAGEMENT and takes a lot of the "fun" away.
They'd much rather beg and plead with White folks for an "opportunity" to participate on their platforms.
It requires no type of thinking or planning.....just log in and start running your mouth, showing out, and making threats against your opps...lol
