Say What You Want Troy......But This Hits Hard

Featured Replies

Say what you want about how generic these Youtube videos are, but THIS one hits extra hard.

I know so many dudes in this age range in this very same situation!

They can't even USE the "financial advice" being offered in books and on videos because the "assumed" lifestyle these financial gurus speak to doesn't even apply to them.

They assume a person over 50 has a house, a career, and come from a measure of wealth already and just needs to know how to "manage" it.
They could care less about the millions of Black men who never owned a house, don't have steady employment, and have to struggle in a system that wasn't designed for them.

This video is one of the few that actually speaks to that fact.

I know thread was directed @Troy but this caught my attention.

Selling financial advice & investment courses is a hustle just like religion.

By 50 years old, Gen-Xers should have secured some type of employment to take care of themselves.

The reality is many Gen-Xers will not be able to retire & will be working until they die.

The material things...houses, cars, vacations, etc., aren't necessities on life.

There's nothing wrong with living in an apartment or sharing a house & using public transportation

The system of capitalism has people believing they need more money to survive &/or in order to retire. That's not true.😎

By all means, chime in.........

In a fair society, yes...I agree.
But we have to factor in racism -targeted discrimination, and the purposeful dismantling of the public educational system.

While this is true, what makes people really angry and depressed isn't necessarily their ACTUAL situation but INEQUALITY and how their situation compares to others they see in society.

In other words...........

A man may be perfectly fine catching the bus and living in an apartment for 30 years.
Until he sees an old friend he went to highschool with who isn't much smarter than him driving a Benz and living in a mansion.
Then he's going to start being a bit jealous and a bit depressed, wondering, "Why HIM and not ME????"

The competition and seeing other people HAVE while you HAVE NOT is the biggest annoyance to a lot of people.

By 50 years old, an individual should know exactly how they ended up at their particular station in life.

A +50 year old can look back over the course of their life & see where they may not have made the best decisions that would have led to having more.

Of course, it's easier to be jealous & envious of others rather look in the mirror.

Introspection is hard to drink like Bragg apple cider vinegar with the mother in it.🤣😎

Well, I'm a baby boomer but I can relate to much of what was said in the video. I only watched about 1/2 of it as there was nothing particular revelatory about it and it was getting redundant. Plus it struck me as AI.

I apparently was not as moved by it as you were. Sure, shit is hard for a lot of older Black men, what else is new?

It is not just Black men. I see a lot of white seniors greeting folks at walmat, driving ubers, working checkout at Costco, I doubt people do these jobs for just something to do.

I know a few retirees who make more money in retirement than they did working -- usually some disability claim in involved...

He may know, but there may be little HE can do about it by himself.

Most people would have done better if they had known better.

A brutha locked down for selling drugs COULD have been the owner of several Foot Locker franchises, if he had the knowledge and connections to be.

Introspection is hard to drink like Bragg apple cider vinegar with the mother in it.

Thanks for that rather graphic analogy...lol.

Troy

I know a few retirees who make more money in retirement than they did working -- usually some disability claim in involved...

For some people, the idea of getting a steady monthly check, free healthcare, and a reduction in housing costs without having to work another day in their lives is pretty appealing....even if the check is rather small.

Depending on the disability, it may beat the instability and frustration of having to get up and go to a 9-5 that you hate and are subject to get fired or laid off from at any time.

He could have asked for help.

Many more people would be better off if they didn't spend so much time doing dumb sh8t.

Gambling away decades of life eventually comes up snake eyes.

Glad I could paint it.😁

People who have put in the time to retire from a career or job look forward to it.

Disability & workman's compensation claims are popular ways for people to.get out of working.

Having a job one h8tes is a tough situation. Admirable that they are gainfully employed. Bummer that it sucks out their soul. No amount of money can fix it.😎

In my kingdom, that would not stop me from putting able-bodies folks to work.

I'll find some type of work they can enjoy doing.😁😎

He could have asked for help.

And get told how weak he was, for it?

Or get told how stupid he was, for it?

As a Black man, you should know how little pity society often feels for Black males.

A lot of times we don't even feel sorry for eachother even when we know what we go through as a group.

Many more people would be better off if they didn't spend so much time doing dumb sh8t.

You're right.

Much of it is out of ignorance.

A lot of men do dumb shit that they don't think is dumb at the time.

They think they're making wise or smart decisions on how to get ahead or be successful in life.

The 17 year old boy who sells dope doesn't see it as a stupid decision at that age; he sees it as a smart move in order to make money and get girls.

Only as he gets older does he realize how silly and dangerous it really is.

In my kingdom, that would not stop me from putting able-bodies folks to work.

Something tells me that when it comes to putting folks to work.....Kim Jon Un would end up TAKING NOTES from you on how to make the North Korean work force even MORE efficient....lol.

They called him the “Butcher of Uganda.”, But before the world knew his name, Idi Amin was a boxing champion, a soldier in the British colonial army, and a man the British themselves helped put in ...

"That one....overthere.....how old is he?
He's about to die anyway, give him only ONE bowl
of rice a day"

I'll find some type of work they can enjoy doing

Something is really telling me....that WALMART GREETERS.....simply wouldn't exist in your kingdom.
You haven't actually said this, but I'm getting those vibes....lol.

Right. Black man gotta press through all of that towards the mark of the high calling. Can't stop trying or give up.

Sure. Some of it is ignorance. Most of the dumb sh8t people do is an arrogant belief that they're getting over in some way.

Young people are allowed to make mistakes & dumb decisions. No excuses for a 50+ year old.

Maybe so.🤣

I think Kim Jong Un has his hand firmly on the wheel over there.😁

Just head POTUS OJ may be thinking about switching Korean dance partners. That may be food for a separate thread.

Greeter jobs would exist beyond Wal-Mart.😁

A welcoming, smiling face & hello makes people feel better when they show up somewhere to take care of business or get services or spend money.😎
