Greed & Lust......Rehashed Christian Ideology?

Featured Replies

Some of our people need to learn to think OPENLY and INDEPENDENTLY.

They may claim not to be religious but they obviously adhere to the Judeo-Christian moral paradigm when they condemn certain behaviors as "greedy" and "lustful".

What many people call "greed" and "lust" are just culturally biased moral judgements on natural desires.

Sex is a natural desire.
But from the Judeo-Christian moral paradigm....it's often condemned as "lust".

The desire to store resources for oneself and family is a natural desire.
But from the Judeo-Christian moral paradigm...it's often condemned as "greed".

In order to progress and solve our problems as a community, some of us need to learn to think more OPENLY and INDEPENDENTLY.
Too many of our people's thinking is limited and restricted by the moral constraints placed on our ancestors by our historic oppressors and their slave-making religions.

In other words.........

Limited thinking produces limited action.
If you can't think or conceive beyond a certain point, you certainly can't be expected to ACT beyond that point.

I've always taken that quote to mean setting one's mind to put in the work necessary to accomplish anything an individual wants to do.

Talking & dreaming doesn't bring an abundance of anything. Gotta put in work to make it happen.

There's a point at which one has enough. Eat enough food & one is full. Being greedy & overeating makes a person sick. Lust can lead to degenerate behavior.

IMO, greed & lust are negative extremes of human desire when a person is willing to bring hurt, harm or danger to others in their pursuit of weslth, material possessions &/or human affection.

Also IMO, a wise & content person knows when they have everything they need to live comfortably in peace, joy & happiness.😎

The Prohibition against Greed and Lust is not a Judeo-Christian Invention.

Maybe....but I think it runs deeper than that.

First let's not confuse Lust with Sex

Sexual Desire/Drive.....Desiring sex and having sex is Natural beneficial and good - be fruitful and multiply.

Secondly not all things Natural are beneficial or good for humans and human societies and human civilization.

Lust is not Natural...

Lust and Greed are Destructive

Morals tend to be Good

Constraints can be Good....it all depends on what those constraints are?

I can't think of a point beyond which people can't think??

There maybe a point beyond which people can't act....

I have heard and seen people acting before and without thinking...

While I agree with your philosophy, I'm not sure how you derived it from THAT PARTICULAR quote....lol.

Seems like two totally different concepts being expressed.

There's a point at which one has enough. Eat enough food & one is full. Being greedy & overeating makes a person sick.

Facts.

Lust can lead to degenerate behavior.

More facts.

But what IS lust....except sexual desire?

IMO, greed & lust are negative extremes of human desire when a person is willing to bring hurt, harm or danger to others in their pursuit of weslth, material possessions &/or human affection.

True.

And an even WISER person will not just plan for THEIR OWN comfort, peace, joy, and happiness but then begin to collect and store up wealth for the comfort, peace, joy, and happiness of their OFFSPRING future generations on down the line!

Wisdom gets to the point where it's about more than just living for oneself, but one's progeny as well and society in general because that society will directly impact the success of one's progeny.

Maybe....but I think it runs deeper than that.

First let's not confuse Lust with Sex

I think most people do.

Where is the line drawn?

Sexual Desire/Drive.....Desiring sex and having sex is Natural beneficial and good - be fruitful and multiply.

Secondly not all things Natural are beneficial or good for humans and human societies and human civilization.

Lust is not Natural...

Lust and Greed are Destructive

Again, where does one draw the line between natural sexual desire and what they call "lust"????

Isn't it merely a matter of perspective?

Constraints can be Good....it all depends on what those constraints are?

Constraints can be good if they protect one from harm.

But they can also be bad because they are limiting and stifle progress or innovation.

I can't think of a point beyond which people can't think??

I can.

I see people on an almost daily basis who clearly exhibit symptoms of limited thinking.

There maybe a point beyond which people can't act....

This is one of the symptoms I notice of those with limited thinking.

The line is simple....When the desire for sex controls your behavior as in a addiction.

If you find yourself lying deceiving hurting abusing others for sex....or neglecting yourself and responsibilities losing your dignity and integrity in order to have it

Lust is an Addiction

Limited thinking is not an insurmountable obstacle....it is self imposed one - not that their ability to think has a natural limitation.
