Thousands without power nearly 2 weeks after Indiana stormAs thousands of northwestern Indiana residents remain without electricity nearly two weeks after a violent Aug. 11 storm, officials have taken to social media voicing frustration over the lengthy restoration delays.Roughly 9,000 customers in Gary, Indiana, remained without electricity on Aug. 23, Gary Mayor Eddie Melton said in a video posted to the city's Facebook."We’re at Day 12 and 12 days is too long for families to be without power," Melton said. "Twelve days is too long for parents to worry about their children and for businesses to lose revenue and for families to wonder when the relief is finally going to come. I want you to know I share that frustration."'All we can do is pray.' Thousands without power nearly 2 weeks after Indiana stormWhy....is a relatively large city within a mega-metropolitan area in the world's wealthiest nation going without power for nearly 2 weeks now in 2026?Shouldn't we be far more advanced than this by now? While they're spending HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of dollars shooting up the deserts in Iran, you have Gary and even cities in southern California experiencing rolling black-outs on the regular because of shitty out dated infrastructures. Power could have been restored in a matter of days. Follow the money.10 hours ago, Pioneer1 said:Shouldn't we be far more advanced than this by now?Sure. The USA is technologically advanced enough to deal with these types of problem very quickly. A willingness to spend the money is usually the main reason things happen slowly. A predominantly Black city that does not have enough money to bring in large scale temporary power & other resources will have to wait around until they can afford to be helped or a benefactor comes along whether it is state, local, federal or private.10 hours ago, Pioneer1 said:While they're spending HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of dollars shooting up the deserts in Iran, you have Gary and even cities in southern California experiencing rolling black-outs on the regular because of shitty out dated infrastructures. That just goes to show where the federal priorities are when it comes to spending money. Beating up on a small country that poses no real threat to the USA seems to be more important than domestic issues & needs. The funniest part is some of the poorest people in America support an administration that spends money elsewhere instead of helping them.😎 Report

State government should have handled it first with support frim NEMA (federal) as necessary. Gary Indiana just hasn't been the same since The Jackson Five & factories left many decades ago.😁This situation reminds of that water problem in Flint Michigan a little over a decade ago.3 hours ago, Pioneer1 said:Black lawmakers should be making a fuss about this.Hopefully they're not too busy lining their own pockets like the current administration.3 hours ago, Pioneer1 said:On the other end.....You have a Black mayor over one of America's largest cities just 30 or 40 miles away who could shuttle manpower and resources over the state lines to help out a distressed Gary and get the power back up and running...if he wasn't so busy trying to help Latinos. The Latino community may be lining his pockets with that Western Union money.🤣😎 Report

The Democratic did a masterful job in signing of Black folks.Just like poor white folks, dumbazz Black folks jumped into the GOP as if they really give a sh8t about them.🤣A strong Black political party would force these jokers on both sides of rhe aisle to come correct & produce tangibles for our people.😎 Report

The Democratic did a masterful job in signing of Black folks.Back in the day....the 60s, 70s, and early 80s.....I think it was more than just lip service. The Democrats actually provided SUBSTANCE to the Black community in the form of legislation, jobs, government assistance, community programs, etc.....They actually provided TANGIBLES to our community to keep our support. So supporting the Democratic party just became a cultural thing they began to take for granted and the tangibles began to slow down.Just like poor white folks, dumbazz Black folks jumped into the GOP as if they really give a sh8t about them.🤣I wouldn't say "just like" White folks.....because most Black conservatives actually BELIEVE what they are saying, lol. Most poor White folks support the Republican party for one thing...RACISM.They make talk Christian and family values, or safe borders, or low taxes...but that's just a cover.Their main concern is keeping White people collectively on top in this society, and as long as they think the Republicans are going to maintain this order -they will support them. They don't give too much of a damn about their own personal prosperity or health as long as White people collectively are on top.A strong Black political party would force these jokers on both sides of rhe aisle to come correct & produce tangibles for our people.Absolutely.And in locations where that Black Political Party doesn't exist yet or is weak in numbers, atleast we would have a PRESENCE so that our issues and concerns are voiced.TroyLet data center lose power for five seconds, and you will quickly learn where our priorities are.Facts.They'd have that joker up and running before it could make the news...lol.I've been in nice hotels when the power goes off for whatever reason. All you experience is a little BLINK...and the back-up generator powers it back up in no time until the real problem can be fixed.I'm sure most of those centers have powerful back-up generators just to keep the power on for whatever emergency may arise. The way those place need to be protected from over heating, I bet the Data Center nearest to Gary consumes enough power in AIR CONDITIONING ALONE to power the city back up.
