Black folks artificially lightening their skin has been ongoing for many decades now. 

 

Unfortunately, whether being light enough to pass  for white and/or getting close to it has always been a road some black folks have been willing to travel in order to gain acceptance. 

 

It does not help that some black men prefer lighter-skinned and/or white women too. Sistas aren't blind.  So, they have been lightening up their skin and straightening their hair too.

 

As an AfroAmerican man unapologetically content in his own blackness, every chance I get,  I complement my sistas who embrace their shade of chocolate and natural beauty too.  😎

@Harry Brown;  To each his own, there are black people who bleach their mentality and become Retrumpicans in order to be accepted by a white population that considers white surrogates almost as good as the real thing.
