Yvonne Bynoe is an author, cultural critic and the founder of @SHELOVESBLACKART, an online art platform. @SHELOVESBLACKART has garnered a global and multi-racial following that includes artists, collectors, art lovers and art professionals. Established in December, 2018 @SHELOVESBLACKART is now considered the premier online platform for art from the African diaspora.

Bynoe had her curatorial debut in 2022 with the group exhibition, Renaissance of Brooklyn: History Is Present at The Brooklyn Collective gallery in Charlotte, N.C. Through its multigenerational artists, the exhibition used Charlotte’s historic Brooklyn neighborhood as a reference point to acknowledge the impact of erased and forgotten African-American communities throughout North Carolina.

Her philosophy as a curator and as a writer is to highlight stories that have been lost over time or intentionally erased and to include narratives that are overlooked or under-valued. According to Bynoe, “A good curator or writer connects the dots and helps people to understand why particular works and artists are important to our societal knowledge.” Bynoe has led several talks for art collectors and enthusiasts at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts in Culture, and is a regular contributor to the online and print publication, Black Art In America. She contributed the catalog essay for the 2022 exhibition, Cey Adams, Departure: 40 Years of Art and Design for the Stone Gallery at Boston University.

Bynoe is the author of two books on popular culture and the editor of an anthology focused on women. She is currently working on her first book for African-American art collectors.
