Battle Within

I feel like I am caught in the middle
And my back is against the wall
I’m being pulled in all directions
And it’s all I can do not to fall

Face first in the dirt
Struggling with the emotions within
A battle I often wonder
If I’m ever going to win

I know the war is only within me
Fighting the enemy inside
Things I thought would just go away
But in me they still reside

In my heart and in my mind
Not going, but wanting to stay
Lingering dangerously from the past
In my soul, just eating away

I feel overwhelmed
Uncertain and unsure
If I’m strong enough to handle
If I will be able to endure
