If Loving You Is Wrong, I don't Want To Be Right
The old rythmn and blues tune, If Loving You Is Wrong, I don't Want To Be Right aptly describes the main character in this novel of love and suspense by award-winning author Margie Gosa Shivers. Once Is Never Enough is the story of Chicago Detective Lester Miller who had fallen in love with the very beautiful, very married Cara, in the author's debut novel Anonymity.
Lester returns in this sequel a much stronger and wiser man. But; will his love for Cara continue to remain in his spirit and his soul as he struggles to cut his losses and move on? I have to admit that I am a sucker for a good love story so I was quite anxious to see where this story was going to lead the reader. I also have to admit that I tend to get attached to good characters and I had gotten attached to Lester Miller. Lester is a cool brother, real old school and although he made some dumb moves in his love life; he's a good man and tries to do the right thing. As the story opens, Lester now divorced from his wife Brenda, has made plans to retire from the Chicago Police Department and relocate to Virginia to work for the FBI. But before he can sell his condo and make his move, an old friend who once saved his life comes to him for help. Being the good guy that he is, Lester can not turn him down and before he knows it, he finds himself entangled in a real mess. He has to solve several murders in order to save those dear to him and to keep his friend, retired Chicago police commander, Sonny Newsome from losing everything he worked for all of his life.
In this tale of love and seduction, there is also suspense and revenge. Chicago politicians with somewhat sleazy motives who are being threatened by drug dealers trying to become elected officials gives this book a lot of drama. I loved the drama. Lester's creative detective skills keeps him barely one step ahead of the bad guy while his love for Cara is reignited when her marriage falls apart for the last time and she finally admits that she never stopped loving Lester after all. Lester's deep desire to finally settle down and experience fatherhood also tie into the story.
You will love the twists and turns and the ups and downs of this storyline. A quick read, the author did a great job of pacing the story and creating characters that were very believable and likeable as well. Pick up a copy of Once Is Never Enough if you are looking for a good murder mystery with a twist of romance. You won’t be disappointed.
