  1. In a "committed" relationship, is the female partner carrying condoms as a back-up measure or is this the usual procedure in her role as the designated birth controller? How committed can a guy be if he doesn't buy his own condoms??? Once again responsibility is entrusted to the woman. Does his being good in the bed absolve him of all other responsibilities?? BTW, are "friends-with-benefits" hook-ups considered committed relationships??
  2. This interesting, on-point article appeared on May 30th in THE CHICAGO SUN-TIMES. It was written by one of its black coumnist who is an astute observer if the political scene. Racial panderers wallop Obama by LAURA WASHINGTON Is it the pot calling the kettle black? Or not black enough? Those are the questions swirling in the recent dust-up among some of America’s most prominent black intellectuals and talking heads. African-American names in the news have been exchanging harsh words over the state of black America in the Obama era. President Barack Obama is the piñata at the center of the controversy, but it’s not really about him. It’s about a clash of massive egos and a longstanding worry that as America lurches toward a post-racial age, the racial grandstanders and panderers will tumble into the tar pits of irrelevance. The race careerists are becoming an endangered species. One specimen is a classic. Dr.-Professor-Rapper-Signifier Cornel West should be propped up in a glass exhibit case at the Smithsonian. The famous Princeton University scholar is bitterly teed off at the president. West charges that Obama has neglected the unemployed, the poor, those in prison, and — worst of all — the president is not taking his calls. In a recent interview with progressive web site Truthdig, West railed that Obama is “a black mascot of Wall Street oligarchs and a black puppet of corporate plutocrats. And now he has become head of the American killing machine and is proud of it.” West, whose high-wattage speechifying is a staple of the lecture circuit, claims he made 65 appearances on behalf of the 2008 Obama presidential campaign. And now the president won’t even call him back. “I think my dear brother Barack Obama has a certain fear of free black men,” West concluded. “It’s understandable. As a young brother who grows up in a white context, brilliant African father, he’s always had to fear being a white man with black skin. . . . When he meets an independent black brother, it is frightening.” And I thought the birthers were bad. Of course, this is nothing new. West’s close pal, PBS talk show host Tavis Smiley, has been hammering away at Obama for years. Smiley bleats that America’s first black president has turned his back on his peeps. The Obama debate has opened the floodgates to the rich diversity of opinion among black thinkers and doers. Obama critiques have inspired a needed debate among hundreds of black voices, from Democratic Party maven Donna Brazile, to cable talker Roland Martin, to West’s former Princeton colleague, Melissa Harris-Perry, to New York Daily News columnist Stanley Crouch. On May 23, Crouch penned a searing retort to West’s diatribe. The professor, he wrote, is a fake revolutionary and “a six-figure entertainer.” Crouch added, “Publicity, not scholarship, is his true tradition. West often gives his listeners no more than sound and fury, signifying nothing.” That pot is blacker than black. Let’s not kid ourselves. They’re all word warriors, angling for the controversial edge that will deliver lucrative speaking fees, TV gigs and book deals. Most African Americans cringe at the contretemps over Obama and his obligation to black America. They understand that the dilemma of being black in America extends into the Oval Office. They just want him to succeed on the best terms he can negotiate with a hostile and unforgiving opposition. They fear that airing our dirty laundry only gives comfort and ammunition to his — and our — enemies. I have no fear on this front, and welcome the intellectual street fighting. We are not a monolithic tribe. These debates demonstrate that we have an intellectual heft and diversity that should be heard. Trust me — Obama is listening.
  3. I would venture to say that the romance and passion of spontaeous sex blinds lovers to the consequences of unprotected intercourse. Throwing caution to the wind can, in itself, be a turn-on. Once you inject condoms and interruptions and practicality into an encounter, something is lost in the process. A woman who keeps her own supply of condoms on hand sorta kinda implies that there is a connection between her being prepared and her being promiscuous. This is a dilemma for women. Whatever happened to to being on the pill or taking the quarterly shots? Of course this once again involves putting the burden on women because of the possible side effects associated with staving off pregnancy via chemicals. I've always said that babies should be injected at birth with a reversable vaccine that prevents pregnancy. Of course this is an extremely drastic measure; but nothing else seems to work. Teen-aged pregnancies and unwanted ones really take their toll on the black community. The alternative involves re-wiring the brains of people who think random pregnancies are not a problem. How likely is this??? STD are another entirely different matter. Glad I'm old.

  5. I can't believe how depressed I am about the way the Bulls went out. They had so many chances for this to be a tied series. They lost their mojo. Can't help but pout about Oprah's 3-day extravaganza that stole all of the Chicago thunder and sucked the magic out of the United Center. I'm done with watching basketball for this season.

  7. An inspirational message I just had to share, as a final homage to Oprah... A real man is a woman's best friend. He will never stand her up and never let her down. He will reassure her when she feels insecure and comfort her after a bad day. He will inspire her to do things she never thought she could do; to live without fear and forget regret. He will enable her to express her deepest emotions and give in to her most intimate desires. He will make sure she always feels as though she's the most beautiful woman in the room and will enable her to be the most confident, sexy, seductive and invincible. No wait... Sorry.. I'm thinking of wine. It’s wine that does all that shit. Never mind.
  8. We all thought God was an elderly father figure with long white hair, wearing flowing white robes. Little did we know that all along "he" was a "she" and her name was Oprah. She inspires worship and praise and is loved by legions, - earth mother personified in designer clothes, permed hair and fake eye-lashes, generous and charitable and confident. More power to her as she ascends to another plane amid the roar of her faithful. What else can I say? You go, Girl!
  9. Well, my overachieving young Bulls have reached the end of the line. They did the best they could with the talent they have. D. Rose needs a better supporting cast. All of the accolades and adulation heaped upon him were too much too soon, putting too much pressure on him, while acting as an incentive to the Miami triad. The Heat will get the last laugh, forcing all of their haters to eat crow as they take it all, and begin their dynasty.
  10. I guess Kola is boycotting the board - again, angry because she feels persecuted by anybody who questions her embellishments of the truth. I'm not even sure whether she was actually contacted by the National Enquirer or whether they just ran her picture and reprinted those remarks from her book, which they mentioned the title of.
  11. As we all know, our own Kola Boof claims to have once been the mistress of the notorious Osama Bin Ladin, held prisoner as a love slave by him in a Morrocan hotel during the years from 1996 to 1998. The May 23rd, issue of the NATIONAL ENQUIRER features a story about the murdered terrorist and includes a picture of, and quotes by Kola. Among the things she had to say about this monster who constantly raped and bit her, was that he had awful body odor, was obsessed with Whitney Houston, often talking about making her one of his wives and giving her a mansion he owned, once he got rid of Bobby Brown. Kola further states Osama was a religious hypocrite who regularly smoked pot, and a racist who hated African Americans, and that Miama Vice was one of his favorite TV shows. How about that?
  12. On his HBO show white liberal "Real Time" host Bill Maher posed the question to Republicans, “How many Muslims does a black guy have to kill in one weekend before crackers climb down off his ass? Bill Maher opened up with, “Now that it’s become clear that the Republicans, the fiscally conservative strong on defense party are neither fiscally conservative nor strong on defense, they have to tell us what exactly it is they’re good at. It’s not defense. 9/11 happened on your watch, and you retaliated by invading the wrong country, and you lost a 10 year game of hide and seek with Osama Bin Laden, and you’re responsible for running up most of the debt, which more than anything makes us weak." Maher continued, “You’re supposed to be the party with the killer instinct, but it was a Democrat who put a bomb in Gadhafi’s bedroom, and bullet in Bin Laden’s eye like Moe Green. Raising the question how many Muslims does a black guy have to kill in one weekend before crackers climb down off his ass? Let’s look at some facts. Now for you Fox News viewers feel free to turn down the sound until the flashing facts light at the bottom of your screen disappears. He then rolled out the facts, “When Bill Clinton left office in 2001, the Congressional Budget Office predicted that by the end of the decade we would have paid off the entire debt and had $2 trillion surplus. Instead we have a ten and a half trillion dollar public debt and the different in those two numbers is mostly because Republicans put tax cuts for the rich, free drugs for the elderly, and two wars on the layaway plan, and then bailed on the check, so so much for fiscal responsibility. Bill Maher then destroyed the idea that Republicans are strong in national security, “But hey, at least they still had the defense thing right? The public still believed Republicans were tougher when it came to hunting down dark skinned foreigners with funny sounding names. But Bush had 7 years to get Osama, he didn’t. He got Wesley Snipes. Only 6 months after 9/11 Bush said he didn’t spend that much time on Bin Laden that he was no longer concerned about him. Just as he wasn’t before 9/11 when he blew off that mysterious inscrutable memo titled Bin Laden determined to attack inside the United States. In under a year Bush went from who gives a shit, to wanted dead or alive, back to who gives a shit. After calling out the Republicans for criticizing Obama for during the 2008 campaign for saying that he would go into Pakistan to get Bin Laden, and asked Republicans, “Why can’t you just admit that Barack Obama is one efficient, steely nerved, multitasking, black ninja gansta president? In one week he produced his birth certificate, comforted disaster victims, swung by Florida to say hey to Gabby Giffords, did stand up at the Correspondents’ Dinner, and then personally repelled into in Bin Laden’s lair and put a Chinese star though his throat without waking up any of his 13 wives. That’s how it went down, I saw it on MSNBC." The truth is that the 30% of America that Bill Maher mentioned will never support Obama no matter what he does. Unlike Democrats who did rally behind President Bush after 9/11, many Republicans can only view the Obama presidency with bitter jaundiced eyes that are only capable of seeing all the vast conspiracies that explain why they were not able to keep the presidency, which they believe they are entitled to. Maher had it right. Obama had an incredible week last week, but within 48 hours the right was back hard at work trying to delegitimize his accomplishments while at the same time taking credit for themselves. What is absolutely eating the Obama haters up inside right now is that he got Bin Laden. Since 9/11 Republicans have treated the issue of national security as their birthright, but Obama showed them what a real commitment to keeping America secure looks like Barack Obama is one bad ass gangsta president. He is everything Republicans wish they were, but don’t have the guts to be.
  13. Better stick to rooting for Obama, Carey. Like The Bulls and The Heat, he isn't over the hill.
  14. Now the fun begins for the NBA Eastern conference. After losing all 3 games against them during the regular season, The Heat is ready to burn the Bulls and sweep away their ashes enroute to taking the championship. Bulls' Coach Thibodeau is really going to have to pull some tricks out of his hat to neutralize the big 3, but The Bulls bench has a lot of weapons to back up their starting 5. D-Wade and D-Rose are both Chicago guys and they will really be dueling in this series. We'll see who is D-best. The Bulls may have beaten the Atlanta Hawks in the semi-finals, but they lost popular black Chicago sportscaster Daryl Hawks who was found dead in his Atlanta hotel room. He was 38 years old and cause of death is unknown, pending an autopsy. Sad and ironic.
  15. Whitney Houston has checked back into rehab. Houston has a problem, and she realizes she needs help. There have been rumors for a while that Houston has been indulging in drugs and alcohol, but now it has been confirmed. Houston is trying to get herself ready for the movie Getting To Happy, which is the sequel to her box office hit Waiting To Exhale. The original movie came out in 1995, and all the original stars are coming back for the sequel (Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine and Lela Rochon). Forest Whitaker will be directing, and Terry McMillan just finished the movie script. Will Houston be ready to step in front of the cameras? Can she beat her addictions? The past year has been rough for her. Her daughter with Bobby Brown, Bobbi Kris, has been a nightmare with wild partying and drugs. Her ex, Bobby Brown, has remarried and has started a new family. Houston’s last tour overseas was rocky, so she needs this movie. Her rehab is on an outpatient basis. When she is in public, she has a sponsor who monitors her moves. After 25 years, it’s splitsville for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver. The couple has four children. It was Maria who moved out. Shriver has complained to friends that she felt underappreciated in the marriage and that Schwarzenegger has been ignoring her for years. She long dealt with rumored cheating and his out of control ego. The emotional toll with his erratic behavior became too much and she opted to leave. What’s going on with Jermaine Dupri? Is he really broke, and why won’t he pay child support? The award-winning producer has been making headlines with his financial problems. One of his homes almost went into foreclosure, and he has been dee-jaying to make ends meet. What happened to his money? Is this one of the reasons why Janet Jackson is no longer with him? Sources say Dupri is acting broke to avoid paying child support for an 8-month old baby, a daughter whose mother is a stripper from Atlanta. A judge ordered Dupri to pay the woman $8,000 upfront then do payments of $2,500 a month. Dupri may be hiding his money. Rumor has it he loved spending Janet’s money on strippers and other extravagant pleasures. Janet is now with a man who spends his money on her. Janet’s Arabian boyfriend, Wissam al Mana, is quite wealthy. The 2011 Billboard Music Awards are Sunday, May 22nd. Beyonce will be honored with the Millennium Award for her career achievements. 16. Things are winding down in the NBA play-offs. We have seen the The Spurs and Laker dynasties tumble, and the Celtics are in trouble. The much-maligned Miami heat is looking good, and the Grizzles and Thunder are upstarts to be reckoned with. The Maveriks will have their hands full with either of these teams. As for my Bulls, they remain a question mark. They are a work in progress and each game is a learning experience for them. As long as D-Rose continues to be a thorn in the side of the opponents, the Bulls have a chance, if his teammates give their best efforts. They say basketball is a game of match-ups so maybe winning will involve the coaches matching wits as they match players. Of course all of you jocks know this but none of you took the opportunity to speak up, so that leaves me to play the pundit.
  17. All of the questions and comments you have posted, "boitumelo", have gone unanswered because nobody knows the answers. Maybe, making a responsible decision is the last thing on a couple's mind, when they get carried away in the heat of the moment. Birth control is indeed at the root of many black problems. There is too much indiscriminate breeding going. But it's very hard to change the mind-set of the younger generation who think having a baby is no big deal and maybe even a rite of passage and that STDS just come with the territory. Many black women are love-starved, having never had a father figure. They don't consider the consequences of unprotected sex when they are lonely and in need of attention. To some degree, certain Blacks are trying to embrace DuBois' talented tenth philosophy, but there are so many opposing voices who express resentment, and who come up with the time-worn rationales about the black underclasses being victims of "The System". The black problem defies solutions because Blacks are no longer of one mind. Everybody has a different agenda in regard to improving things. As long as we can't improve schools or impress upon teenagers the importance of delaying pregnancy, progress will elude us. Materialsim has also become almost as detrimental to Blacks as racism. Too many of us are focused on the superficial things as opposed to enriching our minds. Of course this is true of other ethnicities, too. It's a sign of the times. As for Kwaanza, it is all about structured ritual. Everybody has to get in touch with their spirituality and whatever works for the individual is what's important. We have to find the god within and strive to become all that we can be in order to claim the serenity that is the reward. Easy to say; hard to do.
  18. The most perceptive thing I've ever heard P. Diddy say.
  19. We can observe what Clinton and Jimmy Carter did when they were in office. Whatever president is in office is acting like the party he represents when he opposes what the rivals party is for. As I said, the lines have become blurred and Democrats and Republicans have morphed into abstract terms. Just like democracy. Just like Osama bin Ladin became a symbol; the face of terrorism which inspired Americans to unite against a common foe. He was the boogie man who made America look like the good guys, while he languished in his retreat, doing nothing but giving pep talks via videos. We killed thousands of innocent Iraqis to avenge 911. As far as I'm concerned, it's all a big chess game, with world domination as the prize. And so it goes.
  20. OK, only the last entry about "the early bird" was written by Jon Hammond. The others were a collections of witticisms from various sources and they are known as "paraprodokians" Here is the definition of that word: "Figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected; frequently used in a humorous situation". e.g. "Where there's a will, I want to be in it", is a type of paraprosdokian. I re-visited the e-mail and found this information embedded in it.
  21. I don't know who Jon Hammond is, Troy. This piece was something someone e-mailed me, and I thought it was worth sharing.
