Why is There Now A Little Black X?

Recommended Posts

I wonder if this is just happening to me or is this a new part this community.

Every time I click into a thread, there is a little black and white 'X' box that appears.

Even if I click on an icon at the bottom of a post, that 'x' appears.

Sometimes, I cannot submit my post unless I click on that little 'x'.

Even if I browse without logging in, that little 'x' will appear.

If anyone knows why this is happening or if they are getting the same issue, please let me know.

Try clearing your browser data (cache, cookies, etc.) and log back onto the site.

Maybe there's some junk in your trunk.🤣

Okay, Than you! @ProfD

I will try that and see if it goes away.

doing what the good professor suggested will clear up most problems.  Let know how you make out.

Thank you @Troy

I will let you know in a few days if it did go away. If it doesn't then, I will probably make other inquiries.

This is the only site where I am getting this issue but then, I don't visit many platforms like this community, anyway.

As you mentioned in another thread about Black businesses on the decline, I would rather be part of and have the means to support African American businesses but, I don't feel there are many substantial ones as you have.

Chev

I thought you were talking about Little Nas X for a minute......LOL.

"That lil'ole nasty Black X.....what is he up to now?????"

Yeah, me too.....I've been getting that little black box when I log on too.

I chalk it up to another tactic by the racists who monitor and tamper with the site.
I've learned from Neely Fuller Jr. that when things don't seem quite right, there's a lot of confusion going on and can't nobody figure out why or how it ended up that way.....it was probably the USUAL SUSPECTS -the White racists.
Don't put ANYTHING pass them.

Yeah, White folk just up to their same old devilishment again.....lol.

I don't seem to be getting it now.
But the question is what or who caused it in the first place?
And what kind of damage....if any...did it do while it was on the site?

I know most Black folks could care less and are far less suspicious and conspiratorial than me....so they probably thought it was just some computer software glitch or internet glitch.

Yeah right....🤨

There's a REASON for EVERYTHING.

Glitches don't "just happen".
Somebody CAUSED it.....even if it's a programing malfunction.
Somebody put the ability TO "malfunction" IN the damn program....for a reason.

I told you all about an incident at work where they could control the machines from distant offices didn't I?
Negroes sitting up in the cafeteria with their socks rolled down and half their teeth stained brown from smoking too many Newports.....looking at me GRINNING and talking about some:

image.png.28dafbebfaeb1c1ed609416b8f759883.png

"Man ain't nobody messin' wit no machines up in them offices!!!"

.....until we found out they were.

When you're living in a society dominated by White racists, it would be wise to be suspicious about EVERYTHING and examine EVERYTHING that happens that "should not" happen.

Right. Until we set up our own sh8t and control it, it's important being able to 1)  identify problems and 2) solve them.😎

Yes, I am still seeing it.

Some sites that I have researched states that this issue is not uncommon, but I still do not understand why it has started happening all of a sudden and so far, only this community.

But a couple of sources states that it may be due to browser issues.

One source says that it could be updated issues and etc.

I am still looking into it.

I ran an update but I just saw it again.

However, yesterday, I did see something different. I saw that adds popped up with that same little 'x' on the bottom right of my screen, and after I clicked the 'x', the add disappeared. So I wonder if this is a new feature, because I have never gotten adds in that area of my screen until now.

But again, today, the 'x' popped up without the ad.

It may be a way to identify the user.

Kind of like you hit the box and your IP address along with your post goes to some data bank.

What you all are seeing could be the result of ad-blocking or computer security software.

Ads are a necessary part of the business when it comes to running  a free website.

If we don't want to see ads or little boxes or whatever, we could contribute money to help brotha @Troy maintain the site.😁😎

Niccaz ain't trying to do that.
That's cutting into their black-n-mild and Hennessey money.

The only institution they believe in investing in is the Sticky Green dispensary down the street.

OK now I see what y'all are talking about I never noticed this before today.

If this is the "x" you are talking about @Chevdove it is a feature of the software.

If you like a post by giving it a heart, trophy, or smiley face, you can later remove it by clicking the little X.  The little X then goes away.

Troy

Yes, it looks like the "x" box in the corner of commercials.
But usually it appears by itself.
Just now the past few days it has come accompanied by ads....sometimes.
And sometimes it still comes alone.

It isn't constant by the way, it's sporadic.
The next time I get one I'll try to get a screen shot of it.

I rarely click it but I try to work around it.
Another thing I've noticed about it is when I'm posting a message, the html  codes don't work "below" the latitude of the "x"...lol.
But "above" the latitude of the "x"....they work just fine.

The "x" box on my end usually appears in the middle latitude at the edge of my window.
So if I want to post a message with html codes like bold or quoted or change the color....I have to scroll the page up higher than the "x" box for them to work.

That's a shot of it.
The "x" is right there on the right side towards the middle.

Yes @Troy This is part of what I see that is a new feature. In the past, that little x did not appear by the heart, trophy or smiley fact, but now it does. And the little x also appears in other places on the screen as well.

Now it seems like a little window for commercials has begun to pop up along with the little black x box.

Yes, @Pioneer1 That is what I stated previously. The little window ads now show up in the lower right corner of my screen and the little x appears in the window at the top right for you to click it. If you click it, then the ad window goes away.

But I think that because these ads take a little longer to appear, then the little x appears first without the ad at times.

Yes, @ProfD One website did say that it could be some type of computer security software and/or ad-blocking.

My first goal is to support Black businesses, especially like this community when I can!

The two may be related, but the box I often see is a small black SQUARE with an X in it.
It usually stays in one place, even when you scroll the page up and down.

Yes! And it is also related because the little x by the smiley face, etc. is also a new feature that I don't remember seeing in the past.

Is it similar to an X that you might see to close an advertisement?

What happens when you click the X?

I'm experimenting with a new advertising partner it could be an ad unit, missing an ad?  I dunno I'll keep my eyes open for it.

BINGO!!!

That's it @Troy. Sometimes the ad pops up with the little x in the right corner. So, if you click on the little x, then the ad goes away. But sometimes, I think the ad take a long time to pop up, so then the little x appears by itself. And if you don't click on it, then, you can't even exit out of a particular thread, or you can't even sign out of the community. The x stays in the same place, is sporadic, and it may pop up spontaneously in any thread.

I tried to clear my browser, earlier like @ProfD suggested but that didn't work. Then I came to realize that it might be as you have suggested, a new software added to this website.

Yeah, ads are a pain in the ass.  They are a necessary evil to keep the site alive and food on the table.  There are other models and less obstructive ways to present sponsorship I'll work on these after the sites has been upgraded.

LOL!

Okay, and there are some good aspects of ads too, I suppose.

Thank you.

Great observation!  I had noticed this too, but never drew the connection with the little x.  I would end up refreshing the screen to bring up to be able use the "HTML Codes."  I then scrolled the content I was trying to edit above the x and it worked!

I believe I fixed the problem!

The fix is too wonky to describe in detail, but I was related to the adserver. @Chevdove thanks for pointing out the problem as it would have probably persisted a lot longer -- I thought it was just me experiencing the problem.  Still you were clear enough that I should have immediately recognized that you were experiencing what I was experiencing.

Also

I wish the search engine for these forums was better. I type "Little X" and it did not find anything?!

I had to bounced out to Google typed: site://aalbc.com/tc "Little X" and this post can right up.

The search results were reminiscent of the good 'ole days before Google completely exploited their search engine for advertising revenue.

Now that you recognize my brilliance......maybe you'll finally start listening to me about RACE and RACIAL CATEGORIZATION, for a change.....lol.

Why should someone CHANGE their position after learning something new?
Why can't they use what they've learned to BOLSTER their position?

Perhaps it also depends on how fast your computer or internet is.

The commercial is slower to develop with slower service, so that all that initially appears is that little box.

Perhaps what may appear as a little x-box alone for those with slower computers or internet service actually manifests itself immediately as the full blown commercial for those with super high service.

However even if that's true, it still doesn't explain.....to me...why that would affect the HTML codes below it's latitude.

Here we go with the strawman. I did not say that and nor is it related to my question.

The code basically takes control over a defined area even if the ad is not present, basically blocking keystrokes and mouse clicks in the predefined space.   I'm going remove all advertising for a day or two and see if that cleans things up.

Oh, I didn't know those commercials paid you to come on the site!

Then by all means, make your money....lol.

Now thinking back.....I believe I saw a few porno ads that popped up over the years, lol.
I remember seeing  both porno and erection pill ads...lol.

Troy

"targeted to the consumer" as in they research your history to find out what you're interested in to know what to try to sell you?

I don't think this is the case for SEVERAL reasons....

1. I can assure you that I haven't been researching and checking out "erection pills" or anything else to do with erection issues online or offline....lol.
So maybe they were just marketing towards me because I'm a man.

2. I plead the fifth on the pornography part....lol.
Although I WILL say that I'm into older women and African women.....neither of which were shown in the porn ads that popped up on your site.
Nearly all the porn adds featured skinny white women getting their butts slapped or close-ups on fake breasts bouncing.
Things you'd have to actually PAY ME to watch.

3. A lot of the ad were about baking and cooking foods as well as trips to Europe.

I haven't done much research on ANY of those subjects so I'm not sure why they would target then towards me.
