aka Contrarian Posted July 5, 2024 Report Posted July 5, 2024 I've given up. When it comes to the upcoming presidential election, let the chips fall where they may. Not only is the country divided, but so is the Democratic party. Die hard Biden supporters are holding steady, siding with the DNC and Biden's campaign committee members who seem to be viewing the president through a different set of lenses."Forget the polls", they scoff. "Biden will redeem himself." Yeah, right, all they need is a miracle to turn things around. Ol Joe will snap out of it, manage to finish a sentence and Democrats will be back in business! Seems to me. Biden is stubbornly putting himself before his country. The black vote is also fragmented because while some are dragging along with Biden, others find points of agreement with the Republicans when it comes to opposing the LBGTQ community, resenting the illegal aliens influx, being against the 2 wars, overwhelmed by inflation. And, of course, concern about Biden's unstable mental capacity. Will Blacks end up sitting out the election? Meanwhile, rumors are swirling about behind-the-scene efforts to dump Joe, a movement being spearheaded by such Hollywood heavy hitters as George Clooney and Robert DeNiro. Last but not least, is a document circulating on social media identified as Project 2025, the game plan of the American Heritage Foundation, a powerful ultra conservative Evangelical group allied with the Republican Party and MAGA and who, for some ungodly reason, has anointed tRump as their pseudo Messiah. I'm burnt out. Lord help America. 1
ProfD Posted July 6, 2024 Report Posted July 6, 2024 The country has been divided since 2016. Despite winning the election in 2020, the Dems are still spineless. The insurrection of January 6th put an exclamation point on how far the right is willing to go in order to uphold their agenda. The upcoming election will be interesting on several levels. Many Black folks will be voting for the couch in 2024 for the reasons mentioned above and most importantly....because Dems haven't done anything for us. No longer is it feasible to just vote for the lesser of two evils. Dems need to offer Black folks something tangible for their votes. Interesting that Robert DeNiro would be encouraging POTUS PJB to step down when he was endorsing him during the protests on college campuses a month or so ago. Project 2025 showed up just in time to scare Black folks into voting Democrat. The Dems best chance of keeping the White House in 2024 is 1) coming up wirh a stronger candidate and 2) offering Black folks reparations. Otherwise, I see America headed in the direction white folks want it to go in order to maintain the system that benefits them the most.

Well, I hope @aka Contrarian that you have not given up to the point where you will not cast a vote. On some level, I think all the hand ringing, anguish, and frustration. We all feel is a function of the media reporting and not just social media. It very easy to see one of Biden‘s screw ups and very hard to find a clear description of his actions taken and positive consequences that have resulted. The so-called debate was hyped like a Muhammad Ali, Joe Fraser battle. Trump said things like they aborting babies at nine months and even after birth went completely uncontested. The public can’t help but have a completely distorted perspective. I’ve opted out of social media to avoid the influences, but then you miss out on an important information. Striking a balance while consuming News online or on TV is virtually impossible as it’s all designed to trigger emotions rather than to inform and enlighten. All powerful cultures eventually collapse. It is just happening much more quickly for America. I guess that’s just another effect of technology. — speeding up cultural decline.
Delano Posted July 6, 2024 Report Posted July 6, 2024 I guess we will see how well the US survives what comes next. However I feel that it will be an implosion on a few different fronts.
ProfD Posted July 6, 2024 Report Posted July 6, 2024 IMO, America will not collapse in the near future. There's enough checks and balances in place for America to maintain its super power status. If all else fails...America has the nuclear capability to destroy the planet. Again, the most privileged folks won't let that happen. The political parties have the luxury of nominating dudes who would not have even been in the running 20 years ago.
aka Contrarian Posted July 7, 2024 Author Report Posted July 7, 2024 @ProfD: America's global status is not an immediate concern; it's the enemy within. These MAGA Evangelicals via Kevin Roberts, chief spokesman for the American Heritage foundation, have implied that it's their way or the highway as they embark on what they refer to as a second American Revolution. A movement which they are prepared to quell any resistance to. Or will they and the Republican party be deterred by the Constitutional checks and balances, especially since the Republicans have weaponized the Supreme Court, and a Republican is the Speaker of the House of Representatives which is, itself, Republican-controlled.There's no way these jackals are going to go quietly. They'll contest any results that don't declare them the winners! If they do win, bye bye democracy, hello monarchy. if neither candidate can be declared a clear winner, there will be chaos. Another cause for concern is how Joe Biden's obstinacy has taken on divine overtones, leading him to declare that only God Almighty can prevent him from running. Talk about white entitlement! (And delusions of grandeur.) You can't make this stuff up, folks. Are we having fun yet? @troy: I don't have a problem with the media reporting what's going on. The public has a right to know. So, call me an alarmist who is overreacting to the situation. Reach the conclusion that it'll all work itself out. I'll be glad if you're right when - "the chips fall where they may". ...I just hope God ain't a Republican. 1

The real question becomes 1) who or what is the enemy and 2) to whom is the enemy. America as a democracy has been a facade for quite some time now. America could become more more white nationalist under GOP rule. IMO, many who claim to be white liberals (moderate to right of center) will be perfectly fine with a neo-fascist country as long as it's led by a white man. Red and Blue are the smoke screens when it comes to running the country but the real color is green. When it comes to politics watch their hands and follow the money. 1

The public absolutely has a right to know. my issue is what and how they are telling us. The stuff we need to know is apparently boring and insufficiently interesting to attract any attention to warrant reporting in the main stream. The stuff that is not helpful is titillating and emotion invoking — the stuff that attracts eyeballs, Is what the media covers and leaves us very divided. 18 hours ago, ProfD said: America will not collapse in the near future. I don’t think America will collapse in the near future either, but it has been decline ever since inception (I’m open to hearing what people think America’s Highpoint was or if we’ve yet to reach it) My point is ours will not be 1,000 year civilization. In the long term we will probably need some type of global government. Our inability reverse man’s adverse impact on the planet is a function of global divisiveness. Petty wars rage and it makes no sense for handful of people to control trillions of dollars in wealth while huge swaths of our planet’s population lives in poverty. Something will have to give.
ProfD Posted July 8, 2024 Report Posted July 8, 2024 7 hours ago, Troy said: In the long term we will probably need some type of global government. The G7 and G20 essentially function as a global government. These countries led by the United States of America make decisions that control power and resources throughout the planet. The great experiment that is the United States of America even with a clowm or stumbling old man as POTUS, remains the most powerful nation on the planet. The checks and balances in place keep the US government functioning at a very high level.
Troy Posted July 8, 2024 Report Posted July 8, 2024 We could do better, much better @ProfD. I doubt however much can be done to rectify the current system. The Supreme court is stacked and can be made even worse with another Trump presidency. The checks and balances you discuss as our saving grace are in jeopardy.

Surely, we could do much better but I don't believe there is a desire. I think the status quo is desired and direction is by design. Half the country seems to be perfectly fine with it too. 1
