I wish we were excelling like this economically and politically...

Some Black folks are excelling in those areas. It creates a sense of complacency within the group especially among those who live vicariously through the achievement and/or success of others.

The Olympics is all about fun and games; the best athletes competing at the highest level.

Any form of entrainment can be used as a distraction or temporary escape from whatever comes with daily life.

But, we celebrate these men and women who train their minds and bodies to do extraordinary things.

The greater society could learn a lesson from athletes in how mental and physical fitness can achieve anything to include solving problems.😎

Now that the spotlight is on America, now would be an EXCELLENT opportunity for either LeBron or Simone to bring attention to the murder of our sister Sonya Massey.

Not that people from other nations would strap up and come storming into the country to save our people from police brutality, but to keep it on their minds so it doesn't get buried.

It's ironic that Black athletes are performing so well in the Olympics for the entertainment of people of other races, because the ORIGINAL Olympics was the very opposite.

In the ORIGINAL Olympic games...which were performed by the athletes butt naked...Caucasian athletes performed for an audience of Black "people".

The so-called "gods" of Greek mythology were original Black "people" of extraordinary mental and physical abilities.
After many of the Caucasians were somewhat civilized by Musa and formed societies of their own, they looked up to these "gods" and would perform physical feats to impress and honor them.
This is where the Olympics came from.

The short answer is...they cannot do it.

Surely, the athletes have been encouraged to leave their grievances and feelings about whatever is going on in the world outside the Olympic village. None of them will be speaking out against wars or murders.😎

A less talked about event at the Olympics was how Brittney Griner held her hand over her heart and cried when the American National Anthem was being played.

Brittney Griner was visibly emotional during the national anthem at the Paris Olympics. Here's why - YouTube

With all the problems that exist in the United States, there's nothing like being held captive in a Russia prison to make you appreciate how much better you have it here than many other places around the world.

All we have to do is talk to some of these immigrants and observe how they treat us and interact with us to get a GLIMPSE of how Black folks are treated in their home countries.

Brittney Griner was a political pawn. I do not believe she was mistreated in that Russian prison. It was a game. Her crying may have been performative too.😉😎

Not sure if she was mistreated or not.
Some would argue that just being locked up PERIOD for a person of her status and what she was accused of would be mistreatment.
However.....

The fact that she was held in a foreign and considered "hostile" nation against her will, not knowing whether or not she'd ever get back home probably paid a strong psychological toll on her.

It was a game. Her crying may have been performative too.

Well, just because her last name is "Griner"....doesn't mean she should keep a damn GRIN on her face at all times, lol.
Anybody can be brought to tears under the right (or wrong) circumstances.

Griner was clearly a pawn. I have no idea if her crying was performative, but I doubt it was

She was a pawn, but that doesn't mean she was a WILLING one.

I'm sure she would have rather not been the object of some sort of international game between the U.S. and Russia.
