I'm thankful for what  I have and wish for more.

Twitter has over a half-billion microbloggers active monthly users after an estimated loss of 900,000 when the South African bought it.

Threads by Meta's Mark Zuckerberg has reported 275 M monthly users as of November 3, 2024.

After the 2024 Presidential election, many black people are using the platform to make plans for the next revolution. How the hell do you plan a revolution on a white-owned public platform that pays allegiance to white supremacists?

Anyway, I wish AALBC was the premier microblogging site - Black people 44 Million strong in America; we still don't control or own a major communications platform.

We must do better.

@Troy Thank you for following your vision to create and maintain a place for us to call our digital home.

Thank you @Mel Hopkins

Interestingly, shortly after Elon took over I was locked out of my Twitter account and have been prevented from going back in. @aalbc is still there but is inactive. I had sometime check. I can’t even look at my old account.

As the young folks would say "no cap", 2 of the beautiful things about this site is:

1. Unlike social media where the space is limited and you basically can only post a paragraph or 2 to express your thoughts, here you have almost limitless space to post your thoughts, feelings, share links, pictures, etc...
So it allows for more indepth dialog than social media.

2. Although I'm almost sure he's  card carrying member of one of those Black Elite secret societies....lol....he's a fair dude who doesn't go around banning people or suspending their accounts over differences of opinion or using foul language like some of the "moral police" on these various social media platforms.

Infact, that's one of the biggest issues this site faces.
Most people don't seem to want "fair".
They want to be able to post what THEY want to post and express THEMSELVES however they wish, but they want to be able to flag and ban anybody else's content that they personally find offensive or disagree with.
Troy doesn't do that, and a lot of people who are used to the generally unfair practices of social media don't like that.

(1) yeah I dislike that about social media as well. As far as I know you can’t even boldface characters in your posts. And the whole thing about eliminating hyperlinks or using the algorithm to diminish outbound links is a non-starter for me.

One of the benefits of controlling, what people can post however is that you can greatly control what the social media platform looks like. I don’t know if you remember My Space but that place was a complete disaster in terms of what it look like.

(2) Banning opinions like this that differ from my own or ones that I don’t like what make this forum  boring. Besides I learned a great deal more with opposing points of views and others challenging your opinions — that is far more interesting. Then echo chambers social media encourages.

but when you have a massive platform and people are spreading lies like vaccines, cause autism, you run the risk of causing serious problems so I can understand why some accounts need to be canceled— because lives are literally at risk.

I know I’ve said  it a zillion times before; but the web was far better off before the handful of the super powerful massive sites took control. I don’t think most people have been around to have a clue about this. But there is a lot we can do about it now….
