Chevdove Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 The Miss USA Pageant & the Surprising Number of Black Contestants 2024 What a big change this year! It makes me wonder what kind of politics are behind this event even more. Last year, there were a lot of hype about certain Hispanic contestants and now, all of a sudden, it seems, the shift of spotlight has concentrated on the Black girls!? So not only was the big news of how the runner up to Miss Universe was Miss Nigeria USA, but on our side of the water were the many Black beauties too, that won some titles. Like Miss Nigeria USA, however, there were several Black immigrant contestants from Africa in both the Miss America pageant and the Miss USA pageants, but then thankfully, there were also some of our own girls being represented as well. The most viral news too was about the Miss Texas in the America pageant of whom is an immigrant from Ghana and she became runner up in the Miss America pageant. However, when I searched, I stumbled across the Miss Texas USA and she is also a Black beauty, Miss Arrieanna Ware! Although Miss Texas USA did not win the title of Miss USA, however, she did place in the Top Ten and many reviewers believed that she was robbed and should have made it to the Top Five as well. Personally, I think her gown in the Miss Texas pageant would have been a better choice for the national competition. But then, get this; the winner of the crown of Miss USA was an Afro-Latina! Miss Michigan, Alma Cooper, won the crown for Miss USA 2024 and went on to compete in the Miss Universe pageant. Brains and Beauty. She is a graduate at West Point in the top 5% of her class and she is also a student at Stanford University in pursuit of a master's degree in Data Science. There were so many other Black beauties in this pageant, whether immigrants or not. Some of my favorites were also Miss Ohio, Miss Iowa, Miss Nevada, Miss Massachusetts, and the tall girl with the afro, Miss Colorado. Also, Miss Virginia, Miss Oklahoma, Miss New York, Noni Diarra Miss Pennsylvania USA Philadelphia native, Noni Diarra, earned her Bachelor of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology from West Chester University in 2022. She is the daughter of a single mother. Melissa Sapini Miss Massachusetts USA She enjoys guest reading and interpreting Haitian Creole for new migrant students. Jessi Kalambayi Miss Colorado USA Jessi Kalambayi is a first-generation Congolese-American Kleo Torres Miss District of Columbia USA She is also an Afro-Latina, her organization is about youth of incarcerated parents. Najah Ali Miss Nevada USA From a family of seven. A broadcast journalism graduate summa cum laude from University of Nevada. Miss Ohio Miss Michigan, Miss USA winner, Alma Cooper Miss Texas USA, Arrieanna Ware, Winner of the Swimsuit Competition 1
ProfD Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 There's has never been nor will there ever be a shortage of beautiful black women all over the planet. The pageants are cool but they aren't telling us anything we don't already know about our beautiful Black sistas. @Pioneer1 will be p8ssed off believing that our women are being showcased so that more white men will be attracted to them. 1
richardmurray Posted January 15 Report Posted January 15 COngrats or success to them all:) the following is the most well known black only female pageant in the usa https://www.missblackamerica.com/ the wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Black_America what it needs is more money. This event has been going on for 55 years in a row. You can't complain about regular black folks making it happen, it was regular black folks who did. It wasn't black thespians or singers. It started in 1968 and not by diana ross or aretha franklin or cicely tyson. 1

Looks like you beat me to the punch....lol. I know you were joking AND a bit serious at the same time because that's EXACTLY why their doing it. These men are making a clear "proposal" or "pass" at our women to come and join them and leave Black men alone. It's as clear as day. We know our sistaz are beautiful. We've BEEN known that. Look at all of the babies we have been making with them for hundreds of years. You don't hop in the bed with and fuck dogs or beavers or skunks over and over again...one after another...and makes songs about doing it. You do that with people you LIKE and find ATTRACTIVE. I admit....it doesn't necessarily mean you RESPECT them...but you clearly like them and find them attractive and think they're beautiful or else you wouldn't do it. Black men have ALWAYS found Black women beautiful and sexy even if they were chasing White women at the same time. We didn't need White men to verify their beauty But when White men work up the courage to show the Black woman that THEY find her attractive two...and now we have to compete with them over her; oh boy.

I guess on a global scheme, this is unavoidable though, and so, it won't help matters if Black women are suppressed and not given the spotlight to showcase their presence in the world as being beautiful. Due to the awful history of how Black women have been so incredibly abused, now that their beauty is being acknowledged is great, but it is also important, imo, that Black men like you @Pioneer1 continue to bring up the pitfalls too! I, for one, appreciate you bringing up how we have been so exploited. Black beauty should NOT be exploited to support White Supremacy ever. It is a great thing when other kinds of people acknowledge Black beauty though, but there is a fine line to acknowledgment versus exploitation.
