Pioneer1 Posted August 16 Report Posted August 16 Man, where has the time gone...... It seems like it was just YESTERDAY I was watching Mayor Nagin on CNN cussing out the reporters and accusing the government of bringing the dope into the hood on live television. I think that may be one of the reasons they went after him later on.

That's how it goes with all of these events...9/11, hurricane Katrina, pandemic, etc. If we're still alive, these 3.5 years under the current administration will go by fast and be in our rearview mirror too. I'll definitely check out Spike Lee's take on the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. That unfortunate situation is a case study in what happens when people don't own the land on which they live.
Pioneer1 Posted August 17 Report Posted August 17 I was talking to somebody a few days ago about 9/11. They said they signed up to go to the military BECAUSE of 9/11. They were in their late 20s but when they saw those buildings get hit, they enlisted a week later. ..........and yes, they were White. But most of the people old enough to remember 9/11 that I talk to....like me...thought it was a movie when they first saw it on television. I remember coming out of the shower to get dressed and seeing the second plane hit and wondering what kind of movie this was. Katrina actually hit a little closer to home than 9/11 because I have so much family down in Louisiana and the aftermath of it was just sad.

Both seem a life time ago. It is hard to imagine Trump‘s presidencies feeling that way, but as ProfD wrote; On 8/16/2025 at 9:51 PM, ProfD said: If we're still alive, these 3.5 years under the current administration will go by fast and be in our rearview mirror too. The events of 911 created a great deal of patriotism many people flew American flags during that time. I’d imagine most FBAs were either directly effected or knew someone who is directly effected by both 911 and or Katrina.
Pioneer1 Posted August 27 Report Posted August 27 Troy I was just thinking the same thing relative to Katrina and 911. Both seem a life time ago. They literally WERE. Katrina was 20 years ago and 911 was almost 24 years ago. Think about how many teenagers you remember who didn't make it PAST 20 years old. Think about how many people were born and died between 2005 and 2025. It makes you so grateful to have live as long as you have. The events of 911 created a great deal of patriotism many people flew American flags during that time. One of the things I distinctly remember after 9/11 was how FRIENDLY Arab gas station owners were in the days and weeks following the event...lol. They were being phased out anyway and by 2001 there were almost no "full service" gas stations left in the Detroit area. They were almost all self-serve. ....except after September of 2001, lol. Arab gas station owners went from sitting behind bullet-proof glass taking your money for the gas and not even looking up at you let alone speaking to you and more likely speaking to another relative or friend sitting next to them in Arabic and all but ignoring their American customers - to all of a sudden coming out of their booths cleaning your windshield, checking your oil, greeting customers, passing out candy and potato chips for "customer appreciation day"...lol.

I thought it was the strangest thing to stop at a gas station in NJ where full service Is the norm.

I have not stopped for gas there in a long time, but they would occasionally clean your windshield and check your fluids. Today I get my gas at Costco and all the attendant there does is make sure you turn your car off before pumping gas are not installing a skimming device

Just stands there. Guess they're waiting for someone to need help with the pump.
Pioneer1 Posted August 30 Report Posted August 30 Although full service stations are "technically" obsolete....the "hustle culture" has re-incarnated it, lol. It has come back in a DIFFERENT form. If you pull up to a gas station in the 'hood, you'll be mobbed by dozen kids and junkies trying to pump your gas for money. Since they can't do it at the stop lights anymore, they'll even clean your windshields while pumping your gas...lol. And if you dare get out of your car to go into the service station you have to get through a crowd of people trying to sell you everything from mix-tapes to weaves...lol. 1
ProfD Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 Baltimore is a mess when it comes to that gas station hustle sh8t. Not so much where I live.
