frankster Posted March 3 Report Posted March 3 Race, Technology, and Algorithmic Bias | Vision & Justice || Radcliffe Institute Artificial intelligence has become woven into the fabric of modern life. From recommendation systems and voice assistants to hiring algorithms and medical diagnostics, AI now influences how we work, communicate, and make decisions. Yet as the power and presence of AI expand, so too does awareness of one of its most complex and troubling characteristics—bias. Bias in AI is not merely a technical flaw; it is a mirror reflecting the imperfections of human society. It arises when systems trained to be “objective” inherit the prejudices, inequities, and blind spots embedded in the data or processes used to create them. The results can be subtle or devastating: job candidates unfairly filtered out, minority groups misidentified by facial recognition, or language models perpetuating harmful stereotypes. Understanding bias in AI requires a deep exploration of what bias is, how it manifests within algorithms, and what can be done to mitigate it. This discussion touches not only computer science and data ethics but also sociology, law, and philosophy. https://www.sciencenewstoday.org/bias-in-ai-what-it-is-how-it-happens-what-to-do-about-it This Black Person is Not Real Weapons of Math Destruction: how big data increases inequality and threatens democracy | Podcast
ProfD Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 Of course, those responsible for bringing AI technology to market are going to build bias into it. Therein lies the problems with being powerless & having little or no input &/or control over the process. Yet, the same people will be the ultimate consumers of their own replacement &/or demise.

To me the question is it intentional or unintentional? 6 hours ago, ProfD said: Therein lies the problems with being powerless & having little or no input &/or control over the process. To have power one must exercise power.....what ever little one has. AS one philosopher said......You never know how strong you are.....till strong you have to be. 6 hours ago, ProfD said: Yet, the same people will be the ultimate consumers of their own replacement &/or demise. True They suffer from a sort of Stocholm Syndrome

Decades of conditioning to be weak has an effect. 4 hours ago, frankster said: They suffer from a sort of Stocholm Syndrome Agreed. A form of Stockholm Syndrome is definitely a by-product of systemic oppression.
admin Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 The first and last videos are too old to be of relevance today. Pill Boy's video seems interesting I'll probably check it out, Still without knowing anything about who he is I'lll view the video very critically. I can only imagine what the state of the art of AI, which none of us have access to, is. ----------------------- @frankster, what is truth? Is it really incontrovertible. History tells us what is true today may be false tomorrow. The "truth" my exist but we may not know it, indeed it may be unknowable. Religions may not be true, but maybe there is something underlying them that is true, but incomprehensible to us mere mortals. Maybe religion is one why we can glimpse it, the way a tesseract helps us visualize a 4D space.

Pioneer1 Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 While Latinos are snatching up jobs and taking over entire neighborhoods.....clearly a MUCH bigger immediate threat than AI...you got educated Black folks like this sitting on stage pushing the envelope with goofy fashion statements and distracting you with big juicy "nothing" burgers. They got good jobs.... Most likely because some White "friend" plugged them in to get it. Eating right. Driving nice. ....totally oblivious to what most of the poor and working class AfroAmericans have to deal with and compete against in today's job market.

Pioneer1 Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 ProfD They are willing to take jobs Black folks no longer want to do & jobs that require skills AI cannot do. Almost all of the jobs they claim Black folks no longer want to do are jobs that pay far less than they should. That's why Black folks don't want to do them. Most Black Americans seek jobs they can actually make a LIVING from. The people who develop skills working with their hands will always be able to find a job. I've heard that before. I can't say that it's false. Years ago I briefly trained to become a skilled tradesmen and as soon as people found out, I was getting requests right and left for personal jobs that needed to be done around the house or at their business. Even when I had long left to work elsewhere I was still getting requests. People constantly needed stuff done around the house or at the barbershop or at the restaurant. "Whaddup man, ain't seen you in a minute. You still doing plumbing? I got a sink in the back I might need you to look at 'cuz that muthafuck STAY stopped up."
