Waiting For Justice To Prevail
Audrey Forrest Carter has penned a great sequel to her well-received debut novel, The Wages of Sin. In Judge Not! readers follow the tale of Dr. Laura Bradley-Hutchins as she returns home to Atlanta due to a family crisis. She is Initially afraid to return to reclaim her children from her cheating and powerful millionaire ex-husband who drugged her and had her falsely admitted to a mental institution. But Laura finds her power and is filled with rage and determination to not only save her children, but to also extract revenge against her ex-husband, Alex.
As she reunites with people from her past; she learns disturbing family secrets, finally is privy to the acts which lead to her imprisonment, and meets a man who will eventually turn her life around in a way that she never expected. Laura finds from deep within a spiritual strength that frees her from the demons that have haunted her since she was a young girl..
With the help of her best friend Marseille who provides her with a very extravagant recovery set- up, Laura is prepared to face Alex and lands in Atlanta ready to handle her business. I just loved this storyline. The author drew a picture of money and status in the African American community of Hotlanta where the characters had plenty of money but not an awful lot of love and respect for one another. Yet; the characters were colorful and very entertaining. I laughed almost to tears as Marseill’s ’ghetto fabulous’ relatives helped her to help her friend while she looked on as the diva of the upper crust dysfunctional community.
I enjoyed watching Laura transform into a woman of virtue who learned that redemption comes from repenting and forgiving and that God does indeed help those who help themselves. She also learned that love and honor comes to those who are deserving. Judge Not! was a fast-paced novel that included both murder and mayhem with an underlying inspirational message that left the reader with a lot to think about.
