Hey, y'all! *waves enthusiastically* Hope you had a great Memorial Day, Carey, Cynique, and Chris. I saved y'all a plate of my ribs: cooked 9 hours overnight in a 190-degree oven then finished off on the grill by my husband, and topped off with some Famous Dave's Devil's Spit sauce. They're slap-your-mama, fall-off-the-bone, finger-lickin good! LOL

Once when my daughters were about 3 my husband took them to Appleby's or someplace for dinner. This older White couple sat in a booth next to them. My husband said they were really friendly: smiling, saying our girls were cute, etc. At one point the man asked my husband "May I touch your daughters' hair?" My husband responded angrily "NO YOU MAY NOT!" He said they then had the nerve to act as if they were the ones who were offended. Later he said he wished he would have replied, "Sure! May I touch your wife's breasts?" LOLOL!

Carey, I'm afraid I couldn't get the clue you were providing. I may have missed something, though. Come on, all4you33: do tell!

Fascinating, Cynique! I will admit to feeling a little...inhibited here. It's like a friend bought a brand new, fancy house with all new swanky furnishings. I'm impressed with the surroundings, and a little intimidated. I also am being careful not to track dirt across the new carpets or leave water drips on the new granite countertops. Definitely I wont be kicking my feet up on the coffee table. So, yes, I have been a little bit more serious here. Heck, I see no one has even fought at each other (yet). We'll just have to get used to being here, I guess. In no time at all we'll be belching loudly and tossing dirty dishes in the sink!

Just finished Percival Everett's "I Am Not Sidney Poitier." I highly recommend it. Now I need a new book to read. Actually, Tina, I am leaning toward Edwidge Danticat's "The Dew Breaker."

I finished the book last night. I loved it! Everett truly is fantastic. This book was many things at once, but what I loved most about it was the sheer absurdity of the situation, and how he thrusts you right into that absurdity with the first sentence or two. (Sort of like how Kafka does with the first sentence of "The Metamorphosis.") Now that I've read this, I'd actually like this as a movie as much, or moreso than "Erasure." Anyway, I may do a review on my blog, but in the meantime I highly recommend it.

About to start reading Percival Everett's "I Am Not Sidney Poitier." I've been looking forward to this one for a while. Has anyone heard anything more about the movie adaptation of "Erasure"? I know Angela Bassett and Courtney Vance were involved and hoped that it would move forward quickly in light of the success of "Precious." (Many think that "Push" was the inspiration for Everett's character's foray into "ghetto lit.")

Why I gotta go back to being a "newbie"? I was so hoping to reach Cyniquian status?
